The state government and the education board also declared the cancelation of class 9 and 11 examinations and stated that all the students studying in these classes will be promoted to the next grade based on their performance in the first semester.
In the midst of health and economic crisis due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the Maharashtra government decided to cancel the pending SSC or class 10 board examinations. The school education minister of the state, Varsha Gaikwad declared the cancelation of the pending Geography and Work Experience papers and instructed the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to do the assessment of the students based on the respective rules for these subjects.
Apart from canceling the Maharashtra SSC exam, the state government and the education board also declared the cancelation of class 9 and 11 examinations and stated that all the students studying in these classes will be promoted to the next grade based on their performance in the first semester.
While announcing the decision of the education board regarding the canceled examinations, Ms Gaikwad said, ‘Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we've decided to cancel the second-semester examinations for grade 9th & 11th. Also, we've decided to cancel the last examination which was unresolved for grade 10th.’
Earlier, the Maharashtra education department announced that the last SSC examination of Geography subject, scheduled for March 23, will take place on a revised date, to be announced after March 31. However, on March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi further extended the lockdown for 21 days i.e. until April 14, and that led to the postponement of the examination again.
As the situation is not under control yet, various state governments and the central government are discussing over the extension of the lockdown again to control the COVID-19 spread in the country.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government already canceled the annual examination of classes 1 to 8 and promoted all the students studying in these classes without any examination.
