Q:   Is BDS at Ahmedabad Dental College and Hospital a good choice?

    A:
    {Source: BDS students & alumni}

Based on student and alumni reviews, here's what emerges:

    Pros:

    * Well-equipped labs and modern equipment
    * Good teaching quality and experienced faculty members
    * Opportunities for research and hands-on training
    * Variety of extracurricular activities and festivals
    * Affordable fees (Rs. 3.14 Lacs per year for government quota)
    * High placement rate (around 100%) with decent stipends (Rs. 10,000 - 50,000 per month)

    Cons:

    * Limited patient availability leading to less practice experience
    * Infrastructure issues, including poor hostel maintenance and overpriced canteen food
    * Lack of emphasis on practical skills in favor of theoretical knowledge
    * Average quality of mess and canteen food
    * Poor washroom hygiene

    Overall Assessment:
Ahmedabad Dental College and Hospital seems to have both strengths and weaknesses. While it offers good teaching quality, experienced faculty, and affordable fees, it lacks in terms of patient availability, infrastructure, and practice-oriented learning. Students may need to supplement their education with additional practices or projects outside of college hours.

It's essential to weigh these pros and cons before making a decision. Additionally, students should consider visiting the college, speaking with current students or faculty, and evaluating the institution's reputation and accreditation before committing to the program.

Recommendation: If you're considering BDS at Ahmedabad Dental College and Hospital, prioritize finding ways to gain practical experience outside of class, explore opportunities for research or projects, and assess the college's progress in addressing its infrastructure challenges. With careful consideration, this college might still be a viable option for those interested in pursuing a career in dentistry.

The best private college in Gujarat.
Placements: Around 100 percent placements. Around Rs:22,000 per month will get as a stipend during the internship. Bachelor of dental surgery and Master of dental surgery. Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Endodontics, Oral surgeon, Public health dentistry, Oral Medicine, and radiology are the courses offered.
Infrastructure: The sitting capacity is 100 chairs. Central air-conditioned classrooms with a projector which is helpful for learning and understanding easily. Mess capacity is 50 with central air-conditioners. A fully equipped library and large volleyball ground are there. There is a lot of game-like indoor like table tennis, and chess.
Faculty: Faculty members are very helpful they also clear our doubts which is very helpful for us and scoring good marks on the exam, 2 internal exams, and 1 preliminary exam taken here. Best faculty members are provided in our college. The course curriculum is DCI-approved.
Other: This is my passion and I wanted to come into dental because there are a lot of things that we learn in dental and I wanted to be a specialist oral surgeon. Many events are organised in our college like food fest, ignite, freshers, cricket tournament.

Dissatisfied due to hostel and mess facilities and is not up to par and infrastructure is not good.
Placements: As not enough patients are available, the placement of this college is not up to par. Many of them leave the college. Many of them flew abroad. Some of them tried to pass the college. Some of them started as faculty here. No salary is paid for an internship.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is expensive, so the price students pay and the infrastructure they provide are not good. Hostels are also not maintained, the mess food is totally hygienic and canteen food is overpriced. We pay a huge amount of 1 lac, but the facility and staff are not up to par.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified but they just come and read the slides and go. They are not based on learning, just finishing the syllabus. Teachers are quite helpful and they know things but practical work is also good but facilities are not good at all. They only want your money and are not focused on providing education.
Other: BDS as a whole is a great field. There are many fests organized on our campus and scholarships are also there.

Immensely happy and satisfied with the teaching pattern and college life.
Placements: In Bachelor of dental surgery, there are 100 students placed at a time in one batch. The fee structure is 3.14 L per year for the government quota and 7L for the management quota. Also, there is an NRI quota for 14L. As this is a dental college, there are no campus placements just like other dental and medical colleges.
Infrastructure: There is every type of facility provided by Ahmedabad dental college for its students from transport facilities to neat and clean classrooms, lecture halls, auditoriums, libraries, etc. The quality of food offered by mess and canteen is good. As it is a dental college, there are 24/7 medical facilities available. The sports and games are well maintained!
Faculty: The professors and teachers are highly qualified and immensely experienced in their particular subjects. The teaching quality is the best in Ahmedabad dental college. The teachers regularly update their teaching methods along with modern times. The course curriculum is uptodate with the industry. There is no semester system in the dental stream. There is a yearly examination pattern and the difficulty level is good and it also depends on the individual. The passing percentage is 50%.
Other: I chose this course as it was my dream to become a doctor. The best thing about my course is its uniqueness. A dentist is as important as any other doctor in their respective fields. Studying dentistry not only provides an immense amount of knowledge but also builds a persona in an individual on how to deal with stress and difficult situations in life. As in every field, there are areas of improvement required, the improvement required in dentistry and dental colleges is the job opportunities after the course completion. In my college, there are all types of events done like dental camps, conferences, sports week, etc.

Exceptionally good college, adequate infrastructure and great teachers.
Placements: There are no particular placements in the BDS course nor internships are provided. Generally, many individuals in this field start their own clinics or join some other after graduation. Some also get involved in their post-graduate courses after the BDS.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is appealing, it provides all the basic facilities from the library to proper labs for medical, Wi-Fi, and sports ground. Classrooms are very well structured and updated with modern technology. Hostel facilities are available for the college students and the quality of the hostel is reasonable providing all basic necessities.
Faculty: Teachers here fill the classroom with positivity and their strategy of teaching helps the students a lot. The curriculum of BDS makes us ready for the coming future. There are plenty of opportunities ready for the degree of dentistry and the curriculum here is increasing our knowledge drastically.
Other: Quiet good exposure of patients, very active with regard to fests, and probably the only dental college in Gujarat which hosts an annual fest with such zeal.

The college needs to improve faculty members because most of them are lazy.
Placements: A lot of students enrol in our college. There are about 100 students in a batch. There are no recruiters who come to college to employ students, and all students are eligible for the compulsory rotatory internship once they clear the final year exams. College provides opportunities for roles like faculty, general dentist, etc.
Infrastructure: There was no Wi-Fi provided on campus. The food served in the mess was average. Sports week and cultural week were good events. Medical facilities were average, and the library was good and adequate. Washroom hygiene was terrible and should supply masks and gloves.
Faculty: Some teachers were good, whereas others were terrible. Teachers were helpful, but the latest advances should be taught and allowed to be practised so that students feel more confident about treatments. It doesn't make students ready but makes them ready partially.
Other: They can improve quality by teaching some of the latest techniques rather than old processes. More seminars regarding the latest advances should be held.
