Commonly asked questions
On Admissions

Q:   Can I join Federal Institute of Science and Technology directly?

A:

Here are the specifics for applying directly, based on the Federal Institute of Science and Technology's regular admissions procedure:

For BTech programs, you must have earned the minimum number of needed marks in your 10+2 or equivalent coursework in a relevant Science discipline (science for engineering programs).
Entrance tests at the national level, such as JEE Main rank, determine admission. Usually, direct admission is not granted based on grades from the 12th grade.
Therefore, only if you have a valid JEE Main scorecard may you enroll in BTech immediately after 12th grade. Counseling is done according to status.
A BTech or BE degree with a strong percentage in a relevant specialisation is required for admission to M.Tech programs.
A pass on entrance tests such as the GATE or NET may be necessary for direct admission to the M.Tech program. Some programs also allow graduates who do not have a GATE to join.

Direct admission following the 12th grade is available for other programs, such as BSc or integrated MSc, and is determined by the results of the 12th grade. However, some can still demand entrance exams.
In conclusion, you need to have a JEE Main rank for a BTech, a GATE certification may be needed for an MTech, and a 12th grade transcript is adequate for other fundamental Science programs. For detailed requirements, please visit the official website before applying.

Q:   Are admissions at Federal Institute of Science and Technology entrance-based or merit-based?

A:

Yes, entrance-based admissions are the main criteria for B.Tech programs, as passing JEE Main or comparable national/state exams is required. Merit and admissions chances are determined by rank on these tests.
Prior to being admitted, students must take and pass national engineering admission exams such as JEE Main. The institute determines the qualifying cut-off scores. Therefore, passing the eligibility test for admission is crucial.
After that, admissions are determined by the entrance exam results' All India ranking. Only the students' JEE Main merit rankings are used to fill seats.

In addition to admission ranking, the 12th standard percentage may also be taken into consideration for seats under reserved quota or at the institute level. However, the determining factor for the majority of seats is entrance exam merit.

Q:   What is the selection process for B.Tech at Federal Institute of Science and Technology?

A:

The Federal Institute of Science and Technology website provides the following important information about the B.Tech entrance and selection process:

  • Exam Score Requirement: Students must have passed the JEE Main exam and any other pertinent national or state level entrance exam, such as the GATE or CG PET, among others.

  • Cut-Offs: In order to be eligible, aspirants must achieve specific cut-off scores or ranks that have been specified by the institute for JEE Mains. The website provides expected cut-off times.

  • Counseling Registration: After meeting the cut-offs, students must register on the portal in accordance with the admissions notice in order to receive seat assignments and counseling at the institute level.

  • Choice Filling and Allocation: Through the portal, students select the branch or area of expertise they want to pursue. Seat assignments are made in accordance with JEE standing, open positions, etc. Holders of higher ranks are given preference.
Verification of Documents: Students submit all academic and personal documents for eligibility and identification verification after being assigned a seat. Additionally, original documentation must be provided.

Satisfied with the college, good tutors, and good atmosphere.
Placements: The percent of students placed in EEE is almost 60% in a year. The highest package includes more than 10 Lacs per annum and the lowest is almost 5 Lacs per annum. Top companies like HDFC, HCL come into role. As an AEEE specialized community, organizations such as IEEE are found, which are really helpful.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi for students is available at the campus as well as at the hostel. The college has brilliant infrastructure and the library is very good. The library has a wide range of books and other documents which really help to mold your skills during the 4 years of B.Tech graduation. The quality of food available at the mess and canteen is good. Sports such as cricket, football, volleyball, and basketball are also promoted.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are helpful and qualified. Teaching quality is very nice and brilliant. Semester exams are easy for 2-3 subjects but the difficult subject varies according to your base you gained during 12th. Pass percentage is almost 70%. The curriculum is very much relevant.
Other: The EEE course plays a vital role after 4 years as the semiconductor industry requires qualified persons with technical knowledge. The branch must be more practical-based rather than sticking to theoretical knowledge. Increasing electrical workshop classes can help with this.

Faculty members and all facilities are nice. I am just satisfied.
Placements: In Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 70 to 80 percent of students are getting placed easily. There are plenty of offers available in core and software areas. Students are getting internships from Microsoft, Intel, and so on. We have plenty of societies in college which help the students to add extra positive points to their resumes.
Infrastructure: The college is actually vast and gives a university atmosphere. It's really green. It has a huge library, which has to be specifically mentioned. They provide good Wi-Fi also. Each department has its own labs with good facilities. The cricket ground adds extra credit to the college. Many film stars visit the ground and often play.
Faculty: The college follows KTU University. They have good, experienced faculty. The labs and theory are taught practically so that the students get an idea about real-life technologies. Semester exams are moderate as they follow KTU University. Pass percentages per year basically differ, but on average, 70 percent of students pass every semester.
Other: I chose EEE because it gives me two options: to either choose software or the core side. The college conducts events and fests all year.

Absolutely satisfied with the faculty and not satisfied with campus life; placement is okay.
Placements: Here in my college, most of the placements go to Computer Science Engineering or Computer Science and Design Engineering. But for the Instrumentation course, the placement percentage is comparatively less, almost 60%, due to the lack of industries that need instrumentation engineers in India. Gulf countries will be a better option for those who would like to take this course.
Infrastructure: The hostel is not that good. Poor Wi-Fi speed, and the bathroom is okay, but they clean it three times a week and clean the floor every day. The timing for boys is 8:00 PM, and then the gate will be closed; for girls, it’s 6:30 PM. So, we can't explore the outside world that much. The pricing for the room and food is good compared to other hostels, and the food is good here.
Faculty: The faculty members are really good and give good points to improve. Most of them are good while taking classes and are also not that strict compared to other private colleges. The curriculum is not that good for being industry-ready. We need to obtain the skills on our own to be industry-ready. The first exam was easy for me, and the pass percentage is 90%+.

FISAT college.
Placements: 89% of students of semester 8 were placed last year in different companies. Most placements come to the Computer Science department of the college and top companies like TCS, WIPRO, IBM, People's 10, etc. are the recruiters. Proper placement assistance and guidance are given to each student from semester 3.
Infrastructure: The college is built on a large plot of land with a huge main campus building surrounded by greenery and a well-maintained garden. Walkways and corridors relax our mind and soul. A gym, stationary shop, canteen, and medical center are located inside the college campus and are open for student use. The library is 3 stories tall and is rated A tier.
Faculty: Friendly faculty whom we can approach at any time of need. Faculty stick along with students for all cultural and extracurricular activities. Exams conducted by the college are of moderate difficulty while exams conducted by the university are of slightly higher difficulty.
Other: I chose this course due to my interests and for its job opportunities.

Strong faculty and curriculum, good placement and industry-ready focus at FISAT.
Placements: FISAT Placements: 70-90% placement rate, with a package from rupees 3-20 LPA. Top recruiters include TCS, Infosys, Deloitte, and L&T. Roles offered range from software developer to financial analyst. About 50-70% secure internships in tech and consulting companies.
Infrastructure: FISAT hostels provide a comfortable stay with essential amenities like clean rooms, Wi-Fi, and 24/7 security. The food quality is decent, and they maintain a study-friendly environment. Recreation areas and strict discipline ensure a balanced and safe atmosphere.
Faculty: FISAT faculty members are experienced and supportive, with a curriculum aligned to industry standards. Practical projects and internships make students job-ready. Exams are moderately tough with a high pass rate. Overall, FISAT ensures solid career preparation.

FISAT is your dream college.
Placements: When comparing FISAT with other self-financing colleges in Kerala, I can surely say that it's one of the best colleges you can get. They provide placements with a good percentage. The highest salary package offered was 17 LPA and the average salary package offered ranges between 6 LPA - 7 LPA. Companies like Bosch, Schindler, TCS, and Cognizant visited our campus.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very good. The campus is huge, and WiFi is available but the speed is not good (average of 4-7mbps). We have Smart classrooms and a huge central library that can be accessed by anyone with collage ID card. The hostel has small rooms, and the bathrooms can be better. Food is also not good especially if you are coming from Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, etc.
Faculty: We have a good faculty team. Teachers are well qualified and trained. But they are very strict when it comes to academics. They are very helpful, and we can approach them to ask anything anytime. As for exams, it's up to KTU nothing can be said about that. For 2024 students, we have a new curriculum. Until the previous year, there were 6 modules in a semester but now there are only 4 modules. Exams are a bit difficult.
