Q:   Is B.Com at Gauhati Commerce College a good choice?

    A:
    {Source: B.Com students & alumni}

While the reviews are mixed, here's a summary of the key points:

    * Teaching Quality: The teachers are generally considered knowledgeable and supportive, with some having PhDs in their field. The teaching quality is good, and the course is relevant to the curriculum.
    * Infrastructure: The college has a decent infrastructure, with air-conditioned classrooms, a well-equipped library, and computer labs. However, the hostel facilities are limited, and the food quality is average.
    * Placements: Placements are not a strong suit for B.Com students at Gauhati Commerce College. While some students get internships, the job offers are limited, and the salary packages are modest (average INR 2-3 Lacs per annum).
    * Course Curriculum: The course curriculum is relevant, providing a solid grounding in business and commerce. However, some students feel that it could benefit from more practical applications and hands-on learning experiences.
    * Student Life: Student life at Gauhati Commerce College is lively, with frequent events and festivals organized by the college and student clubs. However, the college lacks a girls' hostel and has limited recreational facilities.

Ultimately, whether B.Com at Gauhati Commerce College is a good choice depends on individual preferences and priorities. If you're looking for a course with a strong emphasis on theory and academics, this college might be suitable. However, if you're seeking a more industry-focused or practically oriented programme with stronger job prospects, you may want to consider alternative options.

In conclusion, while Gauhati Commerce College has its strengths, the B.Com programme faces challenges when it comes to placements and internship opportunities. Prospective students should weigh these factors carefully and consider visiting the college to get a firsthand sense of the academic and extracurricular atmosphere.

Effectiveness of Placement Cell for B.Com Courses at Gauhati Commerce College

Unfortunately, the placement cell at Gauhati Commerce College seems to be lacking, especially for B.Com students. According to various reviews, there is no dedicated placement cell for B.Com students, and the ones mentioned seem to be irregular and unreliable.

    * No internship opportunities: Many students reported that there are no internship opportunities or group discussions offered by the college, which hinders their preparation for placements.

I'm am gladly satisfied with the faculty members .
Placements: The highest package offered is INR 45,000 for BBA, and the lowest package offered is INR 8000 for B.Com. Our college offers B.Com, BBA BCA, MBA, and M.Com too. It is one of the best government colleges in Assam, and many companies recruit students on campus for placement.
Infrastructure: Our college provides Wi-Fi facility and also labs and a common library for all students. The food quality is good in the canteen and the medical facilities are average. Sports are conducted regularly in our college with enormous spirit and rewarding the students.
Faculty: The teachers are good and knowledgeable which helps in study time as they go through the topics nicely thereby making a good impact on the students. The semester exams are not so difficult as the questions are most probably based on the topics and syllabus covered.
Other: It is a good course as I think.

It's a very good college for commerce.
Placements: Placements are good and mainly in finance and accounts jobs. Companies like Digital Zone, Vantage Circle, etc., are included, and mainly the percentage factor is about 7 CGPA. The annual package of around 2-3 lakhs is offered. Last year, around 60% of students were offered placements.
Infrastructure: Our college has hostel facilities with the required number of seats, which is needed, and the infrastructure is also good with proper fooding and a friendly nature. Discipline is maintained. Facilities like Wi-Fi, cafeteria, and library are available with a huge field to play.
Faculty: Our teachers are very helpful and present whenever needed, and they provide good and useful knowledge. Our courses are HS and degrees B.Com, M.Com, BBA, MBA, and BCA. Since I am in B.Com, the major courses are finance, accounts, human resource management, and marketing management. Exams are taken like group discussions, viva, presentations, assignments, quizzes, and there are also internal exams before the final exam. 75% attendance is also a must.

The final piece of information you will need to decide your dream college.
Placements: There are only a small number of students who get placed after completing their bachelor's. The highest till now is around 7 to 8 LPA, and the lowest is around 2.5 to 3 LPA. Most of the companies that hire are in insurance or banking, which require accounting. An internship from a college is very rare and only one or two are selected.
Infrastructure: The college is quite large, having 5 buildings divided in blocks. There is a library of medium size where you can find numerous books of accounting, management, economics, etc. There is an MBA block for management students near the library. The third block consists of the principal office, B.Com. and H.S. blocks, and the counter. The fourth consists of teachers' office of every department. The fifth and last are for the M.Com. and BBA students. hostel provides with many facilities like medical, sports, etc. The food is good as compared to the hostel charges. The buildings are a bit old, and besides, there may be food in the hostel during heavy and continuous rain.
Faculty: The teachers are well qualified, holding master's degrees and some with Ph.D.s as well. The teaching approach is mainly exam-oriented, where you will score well on exams but it can be improved by implementing a more basic-based approach, which can be helpful in the future. The course curriculum is good but not enough to be industry-ready. The semester exams are moderate and you can get a good score by concentrating in the classes and taking notes. The pass percentage is almost 80%.

The best B.Com experience with strong faculty and great placement in 2023.
Placements: Our batch had a remarkable placement rate of 90%, which speaks volumes about the quality of education and support we received. The highest salary package offered was 17 LPA, and the lowest was 3 LPA. Top recruiters included Google and Amazon, which actively sought out our graduates. The program prepared us for competitive roles with top positions offered, such as marketing strategist and management consultant.
Infrastructure: We have access to high-speed data throughout the campus, which is crucial for our studies and research. The classrooms are spacious and equipped with modern technology, including smart boards and projectors, which enhances the learning experience. Regarding hostel facilities, the accommodations are comfortable and well maintained, offering a conducive atmosphere for studying. For sports enthusiasts, there are ample opportunities to engage in various activities, including a gym, volleyball and football field, cycling, etc.
Faculty: The faculty are incredible helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The professors treat the students like their kids and friends. The course curriculum is very relevant and closely aligned with current industry trends. As for the semester exams, they can be challenging, reflecting the rigorous academic standards of the program. However, with proper preparation and support from the faculty, students generally find them manageable. The pass percentage typically hovers around 85%, indicating that most students succeed in meeting the academic requirements.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to enhance my business acumen and leadership skills, and this program is reowned for its comprehensive curriculum and strong industry connections.

The college is absolutely very good. I would really suggest this college.
Placements: For getting into the college, the students at least need to secure 75% or above. The lowest package offered is around 3 Lacs p.a., and the highest package, as per the knowledge, is around 6 Lacs p.a. The recruitment companies were HDFC Bank and many more reputed institutions. In and around, more than 45% of students got internships from those reputed institutions mentioned above. Some of the top roles offered in our course are Investment Banker, CA, Management Consultant, etc.
Infrastructure: All the facilities required for the students in college are available. There is no electricity shutdown, and properly maintained classrooms are provided to the students. Regular classes and proper faculty members are also there. The working staff are very kind, and the principal is also very kind in his words to the students and as well to others.
Faculty: Yes, since it’s a very reputed college, the teachers are highly qualified and reputable. They are also very talented and very good at teaching. Since the teachers are very good at teaching, the semester exams become very easy for us to crack—not because the questions are easy but because of the teachers who taught very well to the students.
Other: I have chosen this course since I have a great interest in it, and the best thing I find in this course is that I love finance. I would suggest increasing the time of our semester since we have to deal with two semesters a year, which is very challenging for the students.

3 years at Gauhati Commerce College.
Placements: The placement cell is almost obsolete in the college. There is no opportunity for internships, group discussion or other personality development programmes. Very few companies with very low-profile job opportunities come for the placement of B.Com. students. However, the placement opportunity for an MBA in the college is better than a B.Com.
Infrastructure: It provides hostel facilities only for boys. The majority of classrooms are air-conditioned and in good condition. However, the location of the college and the satisfactory sewage system of the city cause nuisance during rains, as water logging is a major and still unheard problem.
Faculty: The teachers are quite friendly and impartial towards students. They are educated, well qualified and treat the students equally. The course is theoretical and we were provided very little scope of gaining real field knowledge The semester exams were standard and the level of difficulty was moderate .
Other: This college is good for students pursuing CA, CS, or CMA and other professional courses other than academic studies. They condone the attendance criteria if requested.
