Great infrastructure, excellent faculty, and strong placements at George College.
Placements: I belonged to the 2025 batch of BCA. The course aimed to equip students with industry-relevant skills and a strong theoretical foundation. Around 60% of the students from my course were successfully placed. The college has consistently shown improvement in placements, particularly in professional courses. The highest package offered in my course was approximately 5 LPA, while the lowest was around 2 LPA. The average package hovered between 3-4 LPA. The figure varied depending on the student's skills, specialisation, and the recruiting company. Some of the top recruiters for my course included Wipro, TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, and Amazon. These companies offered roles across various domains such as IT, marketing, and operations. Approximately 50-60% of students secured internships, with companies like HDFC Bank, Cognizant, or PwC. The college facilitated internships that allowed students to gain practical exposure to industry trends. The most common roles offered included Business Development Executive, Software Engineer, Marketing Analyst, and Operations Associate. These roles provided students with a platform to begin their careers in reputable organizations.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure for the BCA department at George College is decent. The college provides well-equipped computer labs with modern systems and necessary software to support programming and project development. Wi-Fi is available across the campus, but its speed and reliability can vary at times. Classrooms are spacious and equipped with projectors for interactive learning, though maintenance could be improved. The library is moderately stocked with academic books, journals, and reference materials for BCA students, but it might not always have the latest editions. Overall, the facilities are functional but could benefit from upgrades to align with current industry standards. The hostel facilities are average. Rooms are shared and provide basic amenities like a bed, a study table, and cupboards. Cleanliness is maintained reasonably well, though sometimes improvements are needed in sanitation facilities. The mess offers simple, homely meals, but the menu lacks variety and may not cater to all tastes. The canteen serves snacks and beverages at affordable prices, though the food quality is sometimes inconsistent.
Faculty: The faculty members for the BCA course at George College are moderately qualified and helpful. Most of the teachers hold relevant degrees in computer applications and programming, which adds credibility to their teaching. However, the teaching quality can be inconsistent. While some professors explain concepts well and engage students in practical learning, others rely heavily on traditional methods, which may not always resonate with modern learning needs. Overall, they are approachable and supportive, especially when students seek guidance outside regular class hours. The BCA course curriculum is designed to cover foundational topics like programming languages, database management, networking, and web development. While it provides a decent understanding of core computer science concepts, it could include more industry-relevant tools and technologies, such as cloud computing, AI, or machine learning. Practical exposure through projects and internships is encouraged but may not be adequately integrated into the academic structure. While it offers a good starting point, students often need additional certification or training to meet current industry demands. The semester exams are moderately challenging, focusing more on theoretical knowledge than practical application. With consistent preparation, most students can pass, as the questions are generally aligned with the syllabus. The average pass percentage for the BCA course ranges from 75% to 85%, indicating a fair evaluation process. However, students who actively participate in class and focus on practical learning are better equipped to excel both academically and in their careers.
