Review of Government Dental College and Hospital, Vijayawada.
Placements: I got admission in Government Dental College and Hospital, Vijayawada, in 2012. I got 87% of merit marks in science subjects PCB in 12th standard in open category. I got the 3rd highest merit marks in class. I completed my final year in 2016 in the first attempt and completed a one-year rotatory internship in November 2017. Then, I open my own clinic in Chittor. I earn 25,000-30,000 per month easily, but after one or two years, my earnings will be 3 times, i.e., 90,000 per month. Most of my classmates started their clinics after 1 year. They also earn 50,000-60,000 per month. Some of my colleagues are not interested in opening the clinic, so they gave other government exams and got government jobs as dentists in hospitals. The salary offered is very good, and they earn 70,000-80,000 monthly.
Infrastructure: The mess is really good. Hygienic and fresh veg food is available for lunch and dinner. For breakfast, you have to go to the canteen which is within the hostel campus. The canteen is open 24 hours. The mess is closed on Sundays. Security in hostel premises is average. Sometimes, security guards will not be available. Some CCTV cameras are not working. But outsiders can never enter the campus because there is a large fence on the walls, and the main gate security is always good. Wi-Fi is available but not working well, so you have to manage it in your way. Table tennis, carrom and badminton and indoor games are available in the hostel. A small ground is available beside the hostel which we use to play cricket. Drinking water is a problem in the hostel. A private company provides water bottles for Rs. 30. Cleanliness is good.
Faculty: Most of the teachers are knowledgeable and understand students' problems and educate in that way. Oral maxillofacial surgery, conservative and endodontics departments are good. They take weekly tests, vivas and monthly tests to assess the basics of students. Exams are not tough. The passing percentage is 35%. They take lectures regularly, and a minimum of 80% attendance is necessary to qualify final exams. They take lectures in-depth. The teaching quality is really good. The passing percentage is high. Our first-year pass percentage was 87%, and 81% of students passed in the major batch.
Other: I chose this course because I like dentistry and this is the field where you show your skills and earn some good money with the respect of being a doctor. The campus connectivity is not that good because the college is in a remote area from the city. The road is not that good. If you do some shopping, you have to go 15-20 km in the city. 2-3 buses are available on the whole day to go to the city. The railway station is far away. You need your personal vehicle to go to the college. Otherwise, campus life is really good. There is a large garden on campus. You also study in the garden. Events are not much good but average. Diwali celebrations are good. Students get scholarships by submitting the application form to college. They give a scholarship which includes books and 30,000-40,000.
