Strong academics with great facilities and supportive faculty.
Placements: GMC Amritsar provides excellent MBBS training. Nearly 100% of students secure placements, with internships in top hospitals like AIIMS and PGI. The highest package is around ₹12 LPA, with an average of ₹8 LPA. Students get internships in reputed hospitals during the course. Roles offered include Junior Resident and Medical Officer in both public and private sectors.
Infrastructure: GMC Amritsar has excellent infrastructure, with well-equipped labs, spacious classrooms, and a good library. Wi-Fi is available in some areas. Hostels are clean, and the food in the mess is decent, with a good variety. The canteen serves tasty snacks. Medical facilities are top-notch, as expected from a medical college. Sports facilities include a gym and basketball court.
Faculty: The teachers at GMC Amritsar are knowledgeable, experienced, and very helpful. The teaching quality is strong, combining theory and practical. The oldest medical college in Punjab .
Placements: The MBBS students, after graduation, take NEET PG, USMLE, PLAB or get jobs in clinics. Most students go for post-graduation and MD. This college has the highest number of alumni. The average package varies from 1-2 lacs per month based on branch in PG. Almost 80 percent students are placed.
Infrastructure: The quality of the food is on par but not the best. The infrastructure has been old since the college was established in the 1920s. The classrooms are up-to-date with the latest laboratory equipment and equipped with projectors and ACs. A state-of-the-art library and auditorium are built. Along with a swimming pool, gym, table tennis, cricket and football field. Hostels are both new and old. They are in good condition.
Faculty: The best and most qualified teachers are present. Each faculty member is an expert in their field. MBBS and it's subjects are not easy yet the teachers and the PGs do their level best. The curriculum is curated by the NMC, which is the national medical guideline and the standard for the college. The curriculum includes both clinical and theoretical knowledge required for future doctors. The pass percentage is around 70 percent.
Other: This course paves the way for the future doctors of the country. Of course, it's going to be the best course. The dealing with patients, the knowledge—everything is good about the course, even though it is the most hard-working course. There are lots of study hours, countless clinical classes and conferences. But the college life is not much. Last GMC, Amritsar held its centennial celebrations, Teej celebrations, freshers and other festivals, and medical conferences with physicians all over the world. The college is built in the center of the city and accessible everywhere.

All over, it's a good college.
Placements: Our batch (2019) had a group of 250 students. As medicos, we don't get placements via companies but need to build our CV to work in hospitals after completing a compulsory and rotatory internship in various departments at the same hospital. All students who pass the final year get into internships. The stipend we receive during internships in all government colleges of Punjab is a mere 15,000.
Infrastructure: Being a government college and hospital, the infrastructure is lacking. Although they have constructed two new hostels, one for girls (the smaller one) and another for boys, the overall condition of the college infrastructure is manageable but definitely needs improvement.
Faculty: The faculty is well-educated and well-versed, but during our batch, there was some confusion due to curriculum changes by the NMC. However, this issue has been resolved, and classes are now more clinically oriented. Some teachers are helpful, while the majority tend to be less so.
Other: I chose this course because I was inclined towards Biology from the start. Although I never realized how vast and difficult it would be, it's worth it. I wish there were more facilities at the government college hostels and better utilization and transparency regarding the allocated funds.

Good campus size with poor maintenance .
Placements: I belong to MBBS batch 2020 so 250 students enrolled in this course through state and all India counselling and this college offers a stipend of Rs.15000/- upon internship. This college offers courses like MBBS NURSING and PG courses. The associated hospital is GNDH.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are quite average like the rooms are okayish. Girls hostel does not have single room facilities until you proceed senior batches. There is sheer lack of maintenance of the hostels. A new hostel is under construction. Hostel does not have Wi-Fi, geyser is available. Mess has average food. Library has improper lighting and ventilation and no Wi-Fi plus lack of new books. Lecture theatre anatomy Lt is air conditioned rest are not. Playgrounds are being upgraded. There is a sports complex with many facilities including a swimming pool .
Faculty: The teachers are qualified but not all of them teach well only some of the teachers have thorough knowledge and teach quite well. The curriculum is not up to the mark according to me there is problem in implementing it. Semester exams are okayish.

This is an average medical college.
Placements: Placements at a medical college do not matter, because almost all students either find a job as a medical officer or house surgeon right after graduation. Some preparing for post-graduation take a gap year or two, but the population of those students who crack NEET PG in the first attempt is very low.
Infrastructure: The buildings are newly constructed i.e new boys hostel and a girls hostel. There is no air-conditioner in the girls' hostel, but they are poorly maintained. The boys' hostel is not kept properly with dogs roaming around. It also constructs a sports complex with a pool and gym, but the pool is very dirty. The food served in the canteen and mess is average. The laboratories and exam centers are newly constructed in this college.
Faculty: Some teachers are great, and some are at par with the type of education they need at a professional college. The final exams take place once a year. Regular class exams, term tests, and practical exams also take place, but overall depends on students whether they prepare enough to pass or not.

Some true insights about GMC Amritsar.

All those students who pass the final year get into internships. The stipend we get paid in internships in all government colleges in Punjab is mere 15,000 though.
Infrastructure: Being a government college and hospital, the infrastructure part is lagging here. Although they have constructed 2 new hostels, one for girls (the smaller one) and the other for boys. But overall, the condition of college infrastructure is manageable. But it needs improvement, definitely.
Faculty: Faculty is well educated and well versed, but from our batch, due to the curriculum change by NMC, there was some confusion among the faculty. But this matter is now solved, and the classes are more clinically oriented now. Some teachers are helpful, while the majority others just keep bugging.
Other: I chose this course because I was kind of a biology student from the start. Although I didn't think ever that it would be that vast and difficult, yes, it is worth it. I wish there could be more facilities at the government. College hostels and proper improvisation of the funds allotted and transparency amongst the students.
