B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering - Batch of 2024
4.4
4Placements4Infrastructure5Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Affordable education with decent placements but needs modernization in curriculum & infrastructure.
Placements: The Himachal Institute of Engineering and Technology (HIET) in Shahpur has a moderate placement record. Around 70-75% of students from courses like B.Tech secure placements, particularly in branches such as Computer Science and Electronics. # Salary Packages: - *The highest package*: Approximately 10 LPA, often offered in technical or software-related roles. - *Average Package*: Around 3-4 LPA, varying by branch and individual performance. - *The lowest package*: Generally 2-2.5 LPA, offered in entry-level technical or support roles. # Top Recruiters: Companies like Wipro, Infosys, TCS, HCL, and local Himachal-based industries frequently recruit graduates. These firms offer roles in software development, testing, and operations. # Internship Opportunities: About 60-65% of students secure internships, mostly in technical or managerial capacities. Companies offering internships include regional enterprises and IT firms. # Roles Offered: Common roles include software engineer, system analyst, project manager, and civil/mechanical project supervisors. While HIET provides a strong academic foundation, placements are most successful for students who actively engage in internships and skill-building during their course.
Infrastructure: The *Himachal Institute of Engineering and Technology (HIET), Shahpur*, offers basic yet functional infrastructure and facilities to its students. There's an overview based on available details: # *Facilities for Courses/Departments* 1. *Wi-Fi*: - Wi-Fi is available across the campus, although students report that the speed can be inconsistent in some areas. 2. *Labs*: - Each department has its own set of laboratories equipped with essential tools and machinery. - For core engineering branches like mechanical and civil, the labs include basic equipment but may lack cutting-edge technology or advanced machinery. 3. *Classrooms*: - Classrooms are spacious and equipped with basic teaching aids like whiteboards and projectors. - However, some students have mentioned that modern classroom infrastructure, such as smart boards, is absent. 4. *Library*: - The library is reasonably stocked with textbooks, reference materials, and journals relevant to various engineering disciplines. - Digital access to e-books and journals is limited, which might be a drawback for students requiring modern academic resources. # *Hostel Facilities* 1. *Rooms*: - Separate hostels for boys and girls with shared rooms. The quality of the hostel rooms is decent, though maintenance could be improved. Basic amenities like clean bedding and cupboards are provided. 2. *Food*: - The mess offers simple, hygienic food with vegetarian options being the primary focus. Some students report the menu is repetitive. A small canteen on campus provides snacks and beverages, but the variety is limited. 3. *Medical Facilities*: - Basic first-aid and medical assistance are available on campus. - The nearest hospital is accessible for emergencies. - # *Sports and Games* - *Sports Facilities*: - The campus has basic grounds for outdoor sports like cricket and football. However, there are limited indoor gaming facilities. - Annual sports events are organized to encourage student participation. - *Challenges*: - Some students have pointed out the lack of a dedicated sports complex or modern sports equipment. # *Conclusion* While the facilities at HIET Shahpur are adequate for basic academic and residential needs, they could benefit from upgrades in modern equipment, digital resources, and recreational infrastructure. Students looking for extensive research or extracurricular opportunities may find the offerings limited.
Faculty: # *Teachers and Teaching Quality* 1. *Faculty Expertise*: - The faculty at HIET includes a mix of experienced and young professionals. While many are approachable and supportive, there are varying levels of teaching proficiency across departments. - Some students report that certain teachers lack industry exposure, which limits the practical application of knowledge. 2. *Teaching Quality*: - Teachers are generally helpful in guiding students through academic challenges, especially during project work and lab sessions. - The focus is more on theoretical understanding than hands-on industry-relevant skills. Practical learning could be enhanced by interacting more with real-world applications. # *Curriculum Relevance* 1. *Relevance to Industry*: - The curriculum follows the guidelines set by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU), ensuring coverage of core engineering subjects. - While it provides a strong foundation, students often find the curriculum lagging in emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Machine Learning. - Internships, workshops, and industry exposure programs are limited, which may leave students less prepared for competitive industries. 2. *Industry Readiness*: - To become industry-ready, students need to supplement their learning with additional certification and practical internships. - The college offers occasional seminars and guest lectures, but these are not sufficient for advanced professional preparation. # *Semester Exams* 1. *Difficulty Level*: - Semester exams are considered moderately difficult, aligning with the standard set by HPTU. They test theoretical knowledge more than application skills. - A well-prepared student can clear exams with regular study and guidance from faculty. 2. *Pass Percentage*: - The pass percentage is generally high, with most students managing to clear exams on their first attempt. However, success often depends on individual dedication and consistent academic effort. # *Conclusion* - *Teaching*: Helpful but with scope for modernization in both methodology and industry exposure. - *Curriculum*: Provides a basic foundation but requires external resources for holistic development. - *Exams*: Manageable with regular study, but less emphasis on practical, industry-aligned skills. For students aiming to excel in competitive industries, proactive engagement in internships, certification, and self-learning is essential.

These events foster creativity and teamwork. 2. **Campus Crowd**: - The student community is diverse, primarily from Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states, fostering a sense of cultural camaraderie. 3. **Connectivity and Surroundings**: - Located amidst the serene hills of Kangra, the campus provides a peaceful environment conducive to learning. - However, its remote location can make accessibility and connectivity to major cities a challenge. 4. **Extracurricular Activities**: - The institute offers basic extracurricular activities, including sports and cultural events, but lacks extensive facilities for clubs and student organizations. --- ### **Scholarships and Financial Aid** - Scholarships based on merit and need are available, encouraging students from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue technical education. --- ### **Conclusion** Students choose HIET Shahpur for its affordability, foundational education, and peaceful location. While the institute provides good basic infrastructure and learning opportunities, enhancing placement support, modernizing the curriculum, and improving extracurricular facilities would make it a more competitive choice for aspiring engineers.

Review of HIET Group Of Institutions.
Placements: Placements are provided in local companies of Himachal Pradesh and also in the other states like Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. You must have good talent and knowledge to get placed from college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is average. The college has a good hotel management department and also the Yamaha tech lab. If you want more information about the college, it is better to visit the college. The admission cell will help you know everything.
Faculty: Faculty members are very good and well-behaved. They provide in-depth knowledge of the subject.

Don't spoil your future by joining this college.
Placements: There are no placements in our college. The college has no tie-ups with industries. Only 1 or 2 sales companies are invited to the campus to offer placements. I haven't seen any company visiting the college as they said during my admission. We also have a 4-month internship in the final semester, but there are no arrangements from the management side. We have to apply for an internship on our own without any help from college, and we have to pay for this.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is below average. Classrooms are damaged, and there are no fans and windows. The entire campus has a lot of grass and animals come to graze. Cows and dogs are always wandering on the campus. The college has only two buildings, and the condition of these buildings is very bad. In the girls' hostel, rooms are not separated by walls, but by the plywood boards. The boys' hostel is bad. There is no security, and it is an open campus. Lots of outsiders come into the college, and it is not safe for students at all.
Faculty: Faculty members of in our the college do not get paid on time. So, they put no interest in teaching, and they pass the whole lecture hour in talking about other things. If anyone opposes them, they start frightening the students about their internal marks. The college recruits teachers on the basis of links and locality. There are no screening tests or high-level interview. The library does not provide proper books according to the syllabus. The HOD has no interest in making things good. In short, the faculty members are the worst.
Other: This college is totally a mess. The management doesn't spend money on college and students. It is like they are running a business with 0% investment. The management of this college is just gaining profits and providing no facilities for students.

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) (Lateral Entry) - Batch of 2015

Average college. It needs to improve in terms of infrastructure, placements and other facilities.
Placements: In our batch, there were very few placements, they were around 10 placement opportunities for about 250 students. There were no campus interviews. For our batch, the industry exposure was zero. Ours was the second batch passing out of the college. However, there was a technical entry interview organised twice for Indian Army.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is still under construction. Still, it has to be improved a lot. The computer labs are good, but mechanical labs need to be improved. The library is not in good condition. For sports, there is no ground available. However, there are sports events organised annually. Parking facility is not good, or you can say worse.
Faculty: In some cases, the faculty are good but some of them are inexperienced. Some of the teachers are M.Tech qualified, but there are many teachers who are only B.Tech qualified. Many passed out students of the college are taken as teachers. Most of the faculty are not permanent, they leave the college when they get a better package from some other firms. Many times, they made strikes for not paying them.
Other: The annual function, tech fest and sports meets are organised in the college. The campus is 1km away from the highway. If you have your own vehicle, then its good, otherwise, you have to go by walk.

It is a good college because of its low fee structure.
Placements: I got placed in Wipro. Not many students got placed from our senior batch and our batch too. HIET college is very good and has very good faculty. Most of the students get placed in good companies, and the salary scale is very high.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are very neat and clean and also air-conditioned. The library is very good, and most of the books are available here. Labs are neat and clean with proper apparatus working in perfect condition. Sports are also good. This college had the most talented sportsmen. The guidance provided to the players by our sir is very good. Wi-Fi facility provided is average.
Faculty: All the teachers are well qualified and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is very good. They teach us practically which help us to learn more and quickly. The course curriculum is very useful to check our knowledge.
Other: Events conducted in the college are very good. The campus crowd is very good. Many activities are conducted here.

Himachal institute of technology (HIET).
