BDS - Bachelor of Dental Surgery - Batch of 2024

No. 1 collge for Dentistry in Himachal.
Placements: No college will provide any kind of placement, but they teach us and make us capable of earning money in our own clinic and make us skillful. Many BDS students want to get a seat in NEET PG, so they don't care about placement, and many students think about the commission exam.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available on campus. CBCT machines are there in the OMR Department. The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics has a high number of patients. The Department of Prosthodontics and Implantology and Crown and Bridge have brilliant teachers with a high level of skill.
Faculty: Teachers are brilliant. The course curriculum is DCI approved. The degree is given by AMRU. BDS is a 5-year course, out of which 1 year is an internship. Examinations are only for 4 years: 3 exams in the first year, 3 exams in the second year, 3 exams in the third year, and 8 exams in the final year. The level of difficulty is medium.

Satisfied in terms of study, but they don’t provide placements.
Placements: College does not provide direct placement, but students who pass out are earning quite good from clinics. Top roles offered to us are dental practitioners. You can even go for a master's degree, and there are different types of master's degrees like MDS, MHA, MPH, etc.
Infrastructure: College building is fine, but hostels are placed 1 to 2 km from College. We have good working departments, and the library is also good for studying. The Department of Orthodontics and the Department of Endodontics have very good working spaces, and we have 2 cadavers in the anatomy lab.
Faculty: Teaching quality is quite good in our college, and exams are a little difficult as we all know how the medical field is quite difficult in terms of study. The HOD of the PhD department is a super awesome guy; he gives his 100% for students. All the teachers are qualified and knowledgeable.
Other: Dentistry is a good course if you are looking for a job that requires giving night duties as a doctor.

Review of Himachal Dental College Sundernagar, Mandi.
Placements: I'm a 2019 batch student. Himachal Dental College provides a 5-year BDS course and a 4-year internship. A total of 60 students are taken every year after the NEET-UG examination, so each batch comprises 60 students. The college has both UG and PG departments.
Infrastructure: The latest machinery and the latest technology are present in the college. You will come to see top infrastructure like CBCT machines. It is the only dental college in north India that has its own CBCT machines. Apart from this, the college holds a big central library where all the books are available. Also, it has its own e-library. All the lecture theaters are smart classes. We have two canteens, one of which is an open-air canteen. Hostel facilities are also available at the college but its not mandatory to opt for a hostel here. You will be getting a shared room with attached washrooms.
Faculty: Faculty as well as PG students are very humble and oriented. If you are having any problems in academics, then teachers personally resolve your doubts, which is rarely seen these days. All the teachers are MS and have good work experience. The college is stricter regarding attendance than anything else. A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory here.
Other: The college doesn't have its own campus and even hostels are a bit far away from the college. Also, annual days and other events aren't celebrated on a regular basis here because college focuses more on academics as compared to other activities.

Absolutely dissatisfied in 2016.
Placements: Honestly, there are no placements available. No packages or recruitments are offered. To succeed in this field, you need to be skilled and open your own own clinic to earn money. Work hard and become a master in the field; that's the only way.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is decent but not as good as that of larger colleges. The campus is small, with only 350 students. The library is spacious, but sports facilities are limited to badminton and cricket. Wi-Fi is available in the college, but the canteen is not recommended for its poor-quality food. It is suggested that you eat outside for better food options.
Faculty: The faculty is good but not very supportive. There might be constant comparisons, leading to motivation, but misunderstandings between teachers and students often result in poor marks. It's not a great college, and attending such a college is not advisable.
Other: There are no scholarships, and overall, the college offers little. It's believed that your school might be better than this college.

Absolutely satisfied because of faculty, good curriculum, really good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: My batch consisted of 60 students and we were in the BDS course. There are no placements from the college, no packages are offered and only some exchange programs are available. But one thing is positive about the institute: many people from outside come here to do internships.
Infrastructure: The college has Wi-Fi routers. The hostel is good, with food of good quality. We have table tennis, badminton and other kinds of games. We have well-equipped departments like ortho, prostho, period, pedo, and endo. The library is very big at our college, where 100 people can sit at a time.
Faculty: Teachers in Himachal Dental College have high knowledge about their subject curriculum, which is very good because it helps students grow in their professional career in dentistry. Our teachers are all postgraduates who have done MS exams, and their passing percentage is 50 percent.
Other: I have chosen this course as I couldn't get into MBBS and Himachal Dental College is the oldest dental college in Himachal so I chose this college.

The college is situated between lush green mountains with a beautiful garden.
Placements: Placement will depend upon what path the student choose, whether clinical or non clinical. After BDS, you can join any clinic but in long term, for Clinical part you need to qualify NEET MS and for Non Clinical, you can go for Maharashtra courses or MPH and even Pharmacovigilance companies.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is average, but constant improvements are being made. The college Garden is very beautiful with a lush green view of the mountains too. The College Canteen and Library Facilities have been Improved too. The campus is average.
Faculty: The teachers are good and supportive. They are knowledgeable and helpful. Clinical exposure is there. The curriculum is according to the latest guidelines of DCI. The affiliation has now changed to AMRU from HPU recently where AMRU seems to be a little bit strict with exams.
