SMAT 2025 exam registrations will start from February 2025 onwards. There will be monthly exams and candidates can choose the exam session as per their convenience. The last session will be held in July 2025. Students can appear for IISM's SMAT exam ONLINE from their home as the SMAT exam is conducted through Online Proctoring. SMAT Eligibility Criteria

The duration of Bachelor of Sports Management (BSM) is three years, and Masters of Sports Management (MSM) is two years – these are in association with the University of Mumbai. The duration of the Post Graduate Program in Sports Management (PGPSM) and Post Graduate Program in Sports Event Management (PGPSEM) is 11 months which are offered at IISM Campus, Fleet house, Marol in Mumbai. Candidates planning to appear for SMAT must make sure that they check the eligibility criteria. Application forms that do not comply with the eligibility criteria will be rejected by the officials. 

Eligibility criteria for admission through SMAT:

  • Open category: Minimum required aggregate score at the HSC and graduation level (Bachelor’s degree) is 50 per cent for applicants belonging to the Open category.
  • Reserved Category: Minimum required aggregate score at the HSC and graduation level (Bachelor’s degree) is 45 per cent for applicants belonging to the Reserved category.

SMAT Admission Process 2025

The Sports Management Admission Test process is as follows:

Step 1: Registration

The candidate will first have to register on the official website of the International Institute of Sports Management to apply for SMAT. The candidate will have to find a link ‘Register Now’ on the website. On visiting the registration page, the candidate will have to enter the following details:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number 
  • State
  • City 
  • Course

On registering, the candidate will receive an email confirming SMAT egistration. Once the formalities are completed, the candidate will have to move to the next stage of the process and that is to fill in the application form.

Step 2: Fill the SMAT application Form

The candidate can then login and fill in the required details in the application form. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying. The candidate will have to upload the required documents on the SMAT application form. On filling in all the details, the candidate will have to pay the application fee. Once the formalities are done, the candidate will be provided an application number which will be used for future references.

Step 3: Submit Essay/Caselet

Before appearing for the Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT), the candidate will receive a topic on their mail and will have to complete the essay/Caselet within two days. For Bachelor's, the candidate will have to submit an essay before appearing for the entrance exam, whereas students who have applied for Masters' or PGD courses, will have to give a Caselet exam, where they will have to attempt four topics which carry 20 marks each and submit the Caselet within two days.

Step 4: Appear for SMAT 2025

After submitting the Essay/Caselet, the candidate will have to give the Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT) from their homes from their Laptop/PC with their camera and microphone turned on. Not doing so will result in disqualification. Candidates are advised to go through the new exam pattern and marking scheme before sitting down for the entrance exam. Step 5: Result Stage 1

Candidates who clear the first stage, i.e after taking into consideration the Essay/Caselet and the performance in the Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT), candidates will be shortlisted and will be intimidated about the Personal Interview (PI) round. 

Step 6: Online Personal Interview Round

Shortlisted candidates will be intimidated about the online Personal Interview where a panel will question the candidate about his knowledge in the field of management and sports.

Step 7: Result Stage 2

Candidates who clear Stage 1 and Stage 2 and secure a cumulative 60 per cent, will be given an offer letter which they need to download, followed by paying the admission fees before the last date.

For admission to SNU MBA programme, an entrance exam score is mandatory. If a candidate wishes to not appear for SMAT, the university’s own entrance test, then they will have to possess a valid score of CAT/XAT/NMAT/GATE/ GRE/GMAT exams. Only then their application will be accepted for admission.

SMAT is an easy exam. There is no pressure to score a high percentile as well. The SMAT cut off is usually around 60-70 percentile.
