Q:   How are International Management Institute Kolkata 2023 cut off marks determined?

A:

The primary factors that influence the determination of cutoff marks for the year 2023 or any specific admission cycle at IMI Kolkata may include:

1. Number of Applicants: The total number of applicants for a specific programme can significantly impact the cutoff marks. Higher demand for seats often leads to higher competition and, consequently, higher cutoffs.

2. Entrance Exam Scores: The cutoff marks for management programs at IMI Kolkata are heavily influenced by the scores obtained in national-level entrance exams like CAT (Common Admission Test), XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test), or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). The better the performance of candidates in these exams, the higher the cutoffs are likely to be.

3. Program Specificity: Different programs within the institute may have varying cutoff marks. Specialized programs or those with limited seats may have higher cutoffs compared to more general management programs.

4. Reservation Categories: Cutoff marks can vary based on reservation categories (such as General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, etc.). Different categories may have separate cutoffs.

5. Previous Year's Cutoffs: Past cutoff trends can also influence the current year's cutoffs. Institutes often consider historical data to determine an initial benchmark for cutoffs.

6. Institute's Policies: The institute's admission policies and objectives also play a role. Some institutes may prioritize certain criteria over others, such as considering a higher weightage for entrance exam scores.

7. Quality of Applicants: The quality of the applicant pool can affect the cutoffs. If a larger number of highly qualified applicants apply, the cutoffs may rise.

8. Number of Seats: The total number of available seats in a programme can impact the cutoffs. Fewer seats relative to the number of applicants can lead to higher cutoffs.

Unveiling IMI Kolkata: A student's perspective (2024).
Placements: The highest package for 2024 passouts was 20.38 LPA, and the average was 12.02 LPA. Companies like KPMG, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, Amazon, Deloitte, EY, LINC, OYO, Coca-Cola, RPSG Group, and many more come to the campus for placement and SIP. The highest stipend for this year's SIP was 1 lac, with the average being Rs 50,500.
Infrastructure: Course: The first month at IMI Kolkata is called the orientation month. Students are welcome to the campus so that they can get accustomed to the rules and regulations and the hostel lifestyle. Preparatory classes are also taken in order to make sure students are ready when the actual course starts. IMI Kolkata is a package that contains the latest industry-oriented curriculum along with a lot of activities that are done to imbibe and sharpen managerial skills in a student. Infrastructure: The B-School is equipped with all modern facilities, including modern classrooms, a modern auditorium, and all other amenities. IMI Kolkata has its own hostel inside the campus, along with the academic building and the RPSG House corporate building. It has different wings for girls and boys and different room types so that students can choose their preferences. The hostel follows a very strict set of rules and regulations to maintain security and prevent mishaps. A doctor is also available on campus; anyone can visit him without paying. Psychologists are also available to take care of the mental wellbeing of students.
Faculty: The course is divided into trimesters. IMI Kolkata keeps changing its curriculum according to the latest industry trends and needs. The faculty members are highly qualified and experienced and are always ready to help the students, wherever and whenever they need it. Regarding exams, 30 percent weight is given to the end trimester exam. The rest is divided between a series of assignments, group projects, case studies, and class performance.
Other: A day in the life of an IMI Kolkata PGDM student: As a first-year student, my typical day is filled with a number of exciting and challenging activities. My day begins around 8 AM with a half-hour gym session. After breakfast, classes begin at 9 AM and continue until 12:30 p.m. Following a one-hour break to rejuvenate, have lunch, and chat with friends, classes resume around 1:30 PM. After back-to-back engaging and brainstorming sessions with our esteemed faculty members, we call it a day. In the evening, after enjoying some delicious snacks and fun time with friends, students have a variety of options. Some prefer playing games like cricket, badminton, pool, tennis, and so on, while the others head to their rooms for self-study. Many stay in the lounge for group study or to complete work for their respective clubs or committees. Most of us, being night owls, find our focus and productivity amidst the quiet and calm of the night, completing group assignments, preparing for exams, or fulfilling important duties of clubs and committees while the city sleeps. One of the most enriching experiences has been the Design Thinking for Rural Development course. The initiative, in collaboration with the school of design thinking and Mission Samriddhi, provided us with an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with village panchayats and residents. The primary goal of our visit was to gain firsthand insights into the challenges faced by the rural community. The hands-on experience not only enriched our understanding but also allowed us to contribute meaningfully to the community.
