- The candidate should have undergone a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery in an institution which is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.

Other eligibility criteria
1. A male nurse trained before the implementation of the new integrated course besides being registered a Nurse with the State Nursing Council shall produce evidence of training approved by Indian Nursing Council for a similar duration in lieu of Midwifery in any one of the following areas:
O.T. Techniques
Ophthalmic Nursing
Leprosy Nursing
TB Nursing
Psychiatric Nursing
Neurological and Neuro Surgical Nursing
Community Health Nursing
Cancer Nursing
Orthopedic Nursing
2. Worked for a minimum period of one year as a nurse in a hospital/institution or a full-time Public Health Nurse for one year after obtaining the above mentioned diploma and registered in a State Nursing Council.
3. Obtained a certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery registered as Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with the State Nursing Council.
