Manipal Centre for Humanities (MCH) was established as Manipal Centre for Philosophy and Humanities in 2010. In 2018, it was renamed to its current title. It is a constituent institiute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) based in Manipal, Karnataka. The MCH building houses six classrooms, a two-story library, and the state-of-the-art Gangubai Hanagal Auditorium, as well as a conference room, a common room, and offices for faculty, staff and PhD students. It also has in-house clubs for literary activities, film screenings and discussions, literary journals, theatre and sports. Furthermore, the Centre conducts workshops, internships, national and international conferences, writing courses and guest lectures by renowned scholars and artists. In 2016, four new centres were set up within the building to promote research and activities in specific areas, including the Hebbar Gallery and Art Centre, Centre for Women's Studies, Centre for Cultural History and Centre for Religious Studies.
MCH has multiple collaborations with various institutions such as Princeton University (USA), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada), Sutasoma Trust (UK), University of Bergen (Norway), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai), Indian Council of Philosophical Research (New Delhi), Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts (Bangalore), and Ninasam Theatre Institute (Heggodu).
Presently, the Centre offers four courses across the field of Humanities at UG, PG and PhD level. Admission to all the courses is based on a student's past academic performance. Out of the total seats in each programme, 15% is reserved for international students under the Foreign/NRI category.

Manipal Centre for Humanities Admission Process
Candidates seeking admission to MCH must register online through its official website. The application fee for Indian candidates is Rs 600 and for International candidates, it is Rs 2,500. Candidates are shortlisted for admission to BA and MA programmes based on their merit in the previous qualification, Statement of Purpose (SOP) and CV. The final selection of the candidates is conducted through a Personal Interview (PI) round.
For admission to PhD, candidates are required to appear for an entrance exam conducted twice a year by the Centre. The shortlisted candidates are required to write a proposal of 5,000 words. If the proposal meets the required standards, a PI round is held as a final selection stage. Those with NET/JRF qualification are not required to appear for the MAHE exam but have to write the proposal and appear for the interview.

Manipal Centre for Humanities Courses
The duration of the BA programme is three years and that of the MA programme is two years. The first two years of BA have an interdisciplinary approach, wherein the students have to study a wide range of foundation courses, including Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, History, Religious Studies, Film Studies, and Gender Studies. In the third year, the students can choose electives in English, History or Sociology. Similarly, in the MA programme, students have to study English as well as Sociology irrespective of the chosen specialisation. The second year of the programme offers an in-depth study of subjects in the core discipline. MCH offers short-term certificate courses periodically conducted by visiting scholars and artists to encourage students to explore allied fields, such as Art History, Creative Writing, Theatre, Film Appreciation, etc. Those successfully completing the MA programme can apply for a three-year PhD course.
