Established in 2010, Manipal Centre for Humanities (MCH) is a leading research and teaching institute based in Manipal, Karnataka. It is a constituent institute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) that offers UG, PG and PhD programmes in Humanities. It also offers short-term certificate courses at regular intervals conducted by visiting scholars and artists to motivate students to explore allied fields, such as Art History, Creative Writing, Theatre, Film Appreciation, etc.

BA/ MA Courses

• Admission to BA and MA courses is based on a candidate's performance in previous qualifications as well as Personal Interview (PI) round
• All candidates are required to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) and CV for the shortlisting process

PhD Course

• MCH conducts an entrance exam for accepting admission to its PhD programme
• The shortlisted candidates must submit a proposal of 5,000 words. If the proposal meets the Centre's standards, a PI round is held as the final selection stage

MCH offers a BA programme in Humanities for a duration of three years. The students get to study a wide range of foundation courses, including Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, History, Religious Studies, Film Studies, and Gender Studies in the first two years of this programme. The Centre gives an option for students to select electives in the third year out of English, History or Sociology.

Manipal Centre for Humanities MA admission is merit-based. The Centre offers two specialisations under the two-year MA programme. However, the curriculum of both has an interdisciplinary approach. The students have to study both specialisations irrespective of the chosen one. The second year of the programme offers an in-depth study of subjects in the core discipline. Candidates seeking admission to Manipal Centre for Humanities PhD programme must appear for MCH entrance exam, which is conducted twice a year. The ones qualifying the exam are required to write a proposal of 5,000 words. Candidates, whose proposal meets the required standards, are called for a PI round for final selection. Those with NET/JRF qualification do not need to appear for the exam but are required to write the proposal and appear for the interview.

Candidates can apply online through the application portal of MAHE (apply.manipal.edu/mu/admission/login.html). Manipal Centre for Humanities application fee for Indian and foreign nationals is tabulated below:

The step-wise instructions to fill the MCH application form are given below:

Step 1: Register on the application portal of MAHE with your email address, mobile number and create a password. Also, select the programme and stream that you are applying for.

Step 2: After successful registration, login with the same credentials. Enter your personal details such as the category of application (General/Foreign/NRI), name, date of birth, nationality, etc.

Step 3: Upload your passport-size photo and scanned signature (less than 5MB). Next, enter your parents' or guardian's details as prompted on the screen.

 

Step 4: Enter your location details, including country, state, city and pin, followed by the complete address information.

 

Step 5: Enter your academic information such as educational qualification, last institution attended, board/university, year of passing, etc.

 

Step 6: Select the programme, stream and course that you are applying for. Also, select the preferred test centre city.

 Step 7: Click on 'Continue to Payment' tab and proceed to pay the application fee via debit card/ credit card/ net banking/ UPI.

Once the application process is complete, candidates are required to log in again and upload the required documents, as mentioned below:
