Is NISER Bhubaneswar Good for B.Sc?

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's what can be concluded:

    * Research-focused: NISER Bhubaneswar is a premier research institution, and its B.Sc programme is designed to prepare students for a research career.
    * Highly qualified faculty: The faculty members are renowned experts in their fields, with many having completed their PhDs from prestigious institutions.
    * Excellent infrastructure: The campus has state-of-the-art facilities, including modern labs, libraries, and high-speed Wi-Fi.
    * Scholarships: All students receive a scholarship of INR5,000 per month, along with additional funding for summer internships.
    * No placement cell: Unlike other institutions, NISER doesn't have a formal placement cell, but students often secure PhDs from top international institutions or get internships in research organizations.
    * Limited industry connections: While the programme is research-intensive, it may not provide direct industry exposure or training.
    * Good academic environment: Students praise the academic atmosphere, with many calling it "like a family" or "very supportive".
    * Festivals and extracurriculars: While there aren't many festivals, there are occasional inter-batch tournaments and events.
    * Food and accommodations: Student reviews suggest that the food quality is average, and hostel rooms are comfortable, with LAN connectivity and high-speed internet.

Overall, NISER Bhubaneswar seems to excel in providing a strong foundation in basic sciences and research techniques, preparing students for successful research careers. However, students seeking industry exposure might find limited resources within the institution.

Q:   Question: How is the course curriculum for B.Sc. at NISER Bhubaneswar?

    A:
    {Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

    Course Curriculum

    * The course curriculum is designed to prepare students for research careers, with a focus on basic sciences and research rather than applied sciences.
    * The curriculum is strict and rigorous, with a heavy emphasis on theoretical foundations and practical applications.
    * Students must complete a total of 240 credits to graduate, which translates to around 6-8 courses per semester.
    * Elective courses are available, allowing students to specialize in areas such as advanced functional analysis and quantum field theory.
    * The course structure is well-designed, with a balance between lectures, labs, and projects.
    * Professors are experts in their fields, with many having earned their Ph.D.s from renowned institutions worldwide.
    * While the course curriculum may not be industry-motivated, it provides a solid foundation for those seeking to pursue research careers in academia or government organizations.

Note: These points summarize the key features of the course curriculum mentioned in the reviews. They are intended to provide an informative overview rather than a subjective evaluation of the program.

Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for B.Sc. students at NISER Bhubaneswar?

    A:
    {Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

    Placement Cell:

Unfortunately, the placement cell at NISER Bhubaneswar does not exist, and therefore, students do not receive direct placements. According to the students' reviews:

    * "There is no placement cell at NISER." - Anonymous Student
    * "No placement cell, but students usually get internships in research institutes like IISER, IIT, IISC, etc." - Anonymous Alumni
    * "Students don't get direct placements, but those who scored above 7.5 GPA are eligible for a BARC interview." - Anonymous Reviewer
    * "We don't have a placement cell, but most people do a PhD after this course." - Anonymous Student

It's essential to note that although there is no formal placement cell, students may still secure internships and research opportunities through various channels. Additionally, students scoring above 7.5 GPA have a chance to participate in the BARC interview process.

    Good infrastructure and research support.
Placements: Most of them are pursuing a PhD in prestigious universities in India or abroad. There is not a placement cell as such, but I am pursuing my PhD in Canada with an annual stipend of INR 15 Lakh per annum. For my department (chemistry), it was mainly Macleod Pharmaceuticals.
Infrastructure: Everything that a private college can provide, NISER provided. They have a huge funding from the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. The hostel was way above par with regard to government institutes. The food is also very good, and there are a lot of options for every type of diet.
Faculty: Some of them are the most prominent scientists in their fields. Maybe due to that, the lower-level courses are hard to teach for them, but for research purposes, this institute is one of the top in the country. The course closely follows UGC guidelines, but the Institute make tweeks where necessary and beneficial for the students.
Other: Every Integrated MSc student gets 5000 INR per month as a scholarship and another 20000 INR for summer or winter internships done in NISER or other institutes in India.

It is a really good campus to be part of and has a great community.
Placements: No direct placements are offered by any company, but most of the students choose to study after the course. Good recommendations from high-level faculty give you chances for internships and Ph.D. positions at top international universities and labs around the world.
Infrastructure: Labs and classrooms are very good, with air conditioning in every department. The library is very big, with lots of books available offline; an online library is also available. The hostel canteen food is not that good in quality, but there are options like veg curry, paneer curry, and non-veg curries such as chicken curry, egg curry, and fish curry available daily.
Faculty: Teachers and faculty here are highly educated and professional. Many of them have great respect in their fields and are internationally known for research and collaborative work with top facilities around the globe. Courses are easy to pass but not easy to score good grades; you have to work hard.

Very good college with very negligible fees. Good faculty and infrastructure.
Placements: There are no direct placements in our college. Students usually have to apply for jobs or PhD on their own. Most of the people pursue PhD after this course, but many also try for different competitive exams. For internships, it's the same: students have to apply by themselves and get internships at different institutes here or abroad, or in any company. Top roles like JRF, SRF, PhD Fellow, are some of the most common.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very well-facilitated, but if you compare it with other national institutes like IITs and similar colleges, you may find the infrastructure less appreciable, apart from labs and classrooms. The library is the best part of this institute. The hostel is good, apart from some maintenance issues. The food is average to below average. Medical facilities are good. Sports and games facilities are average but are improving slowly.
Faculty: Teachers are very good, apart from some (like in any other institute). The teaching quality is also good. The course curriculum is more focused on research and makes students ready for research. Exams are medium-difficult, and if you at least study some of the syllabus and attend classes regularly, you can pass easily. Passing is usually 30/100, but it could be changed by your professor.
Other: I chose this because I wanted to become a scientist. The best thing is they teach with respect to research, not just what has already been discovered, but also how it was done, what experiments were performed, with the whole history, at least in biology they teach like this. Some of the core courses are too difficult or not relevant for some students. 5k/month is given to all the students, but if a student has any backlog or CGPA falls below 6, then the student is terminated. The student could continue if these criteria are met. Fests are below average, and not much funding is given for fests. The campus is located in a town that is not much developed. If you have to do some work, you have to travel to Bhubaneswar (BBSR), which is approximately 20-25 km from the campus.

NISER: a research institute of India.
Placements: NISER is not a placement-oriented institute; basically, the course is structured focusing on a research career. Although some students get jobs in some research and development companies, very few students get the privilege to directly apply for the interview of scientific officer in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
Infrastructure: The course structure is well-designed. Unlimited high-speed free Wi-Fi, high-quality scientific labs, digital classrooms, a library enriched with Indian and foreign books are available in this institute. Hostels are well-equipped, and foods available in the canteen are delicious and hygienic.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, and they are eminent professors holding Ph.D. and post-doc positions. The course curriculum is to make students self-sufficient researchers. Semester exams are quite difficult to get good marks. The course curriculum is extensive, and the duration is 5 years.
Other: Every student gets a scholarship in this course. They either get the DISHA scholarship from the atomic energy department or the DST INSPIRE Scholarship.

Review of NISER - National Institute of Science Education and Research.
Placements: Almost 81% of students got placed in this course. The lowest salary package offered was 12 LPA. The highest salary package can extend to crores. The top recruiting companies are Indian Oil and other leading industry like the pharmaceutical industry. Nearly 90% of students got internships in Indian Oil and other various leading industries.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good. Powerpoint presentation is also available in our classrooms. Electricity is available 24X7. Laboratory has a good instrument which costs crore. Free Wi-Fi is available 24X7. LAN facility is available in our hostels. Playground is available for sports like cricket, football, badminton, lawn tennis, basketball, kabaddi, volleyball, etc. The food served in the canteen is not good.
Faculty: Professors are well-qualified, and they also publish research papers every year. Few of them are Ph.D. scholars from well-known institutions across the world. They are also knowledgeable. The teaching quality is not up to the mark. The course curriculum is relevant to show the right path in their respective subject. Semester exams are difficult. The pass percentage is good. All students pass the examination after taking a major subject. Few students fail in the first-year exams.
Other: I am interested in research line so I chose this course. The best thing about this course is that it prepares students for Ph.D. Everything is perfect in this college. We celebrate all festivals like Utkal Diwas of Odisha, Pongal, Lohri, etc. Every student gets Rs.5,000 as scholarship every month.

Really good campus for enjoying life with freedom from anyone.
Placements: No direct placements offered by any company, but most of the time, students go for higher studies in other institutions or private companies internationally. So, students looking for placements should search for a job personally after college.
Infrastructure: Good, everything is very good. Wi-Fi speed goes to the moon in a few minutes, but fluctuates sometimes. It's okay, no data limit, infinite data. Labs are good, international-level university. Hostel is good, but the single room is small for one person. The two-person room is good with space available.
Faculty: Good, very intelligent professors. All international scientists attend conferences every year around the world. Teaching quality is top class, and the curriculum is strong for building good scientists for the future of the human race and ethical purposes.
