Q:   Does The Heritage College offer better placements than Bethune College?

A:

The Heritage College and Bethune College, both located in Kolkata, have their own strengths but when it comes to placements. Here’s what I found:

The Heritage College:

  • The college has a good placement record with companies like Wipro, Amazon, and Capgemini recruiting students.
  • The college provides summer internship programs from the 4th semester and paid placement packages are provided to 6th semester students.
  • Companies like Deloitte, Genpact, Wipro, TCS, Amazon, Godrej and many others recruit students via the placement cell.
  • The average package is around 300000 per annum.

Bethune College:

  • The college has recorded more than 100 placements in the last five years and accordingly 20+ students are recruited by private corporations in a year.
  • Companies like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant Solutions, Genpact, Netscribes and many others are engaged with the college as leading recruiters.
  • The placement percentage is 70% with over 100 students placed.
  • The highest package offered is 9.7 LPA and the average package is 4 LPA.

These data are given on their official websites so its better if you ask students who are in this college for better viewpoint. The placement scenario can vary based on the specific course or department. It’s also important to consider other factors such as faculty, infrastructure, course curriculum, and your career goals when choosing a college.

Really good faculty and campus life.
Placements: As a B.Sc. student, all of our seniors pursue Masters in highly esteemed institutions like the London School of Economics, Liverpool University, not to mention Christ University and others. Many of them also pursue an MBA. One of the alumni I know has completed their MBA from IIM Joka.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the course is excellent. There is Wi-Fi, computer labs, and it is mainly viable for the students of Chemistry, Physics, and Economics who, in Semester 5, have opted for Applied Econometrics. There is an amazing library where you get all kinds of books, and even if the books are not available, our college provides a site called N-LIST where you can log in with the credentials given by the college and have access to all books and get them online. The quality of food in the canteen is excellent. All students, even the faculty members, have their lunch there, and the food is reasonable.
Faculty: The faculty members at Heritage College are excellent. Our HOD, Dr. Debashish Majumdar, is not only an amazing teacher but a great mentor. He is one of the reasons I opted for this college because, as a child, we read books written by him. Learning from him makes the entire course worthwhile and fun. Before our university exams, the college conducts internal exams for thorough revision and to help us know where we are lacking. All the other faculty members are very insightful and nice.
Other: There are fest events taking place. All the clubs, like the photography club, music club, dance club, etc., are extremely active and well-renowned in other colleges in Kolkata. They help students taking part in the college gain various exposures.

Life at The Heritage College.
Placements: The Heritage College provides amazing placement opportunities in various big companies like Amazon recruiting directly from the college campus. The internships start at the end of 2nd year and at the beginning of 5th sem. It really helps us connect with great job opportunities .
Infrastructure: The Heritage College has one of the best infrastructure in Kolkata. The campus is surrounded by green grounds and is filled with libraries and conversation spots all over. It's perfect for students wanting to enjoy a nice campus life in their college days.
Faculty: The faculty at the Heritage College is one of the best in the state, if not in the country. They are high end individuals who are aware of their knowledge and can explain any topic in a very lucid language, making it extremely easy for the students to understand .

Campus is beautiful and well maintained.
Placements: The placements in our college are nothing. To get a job, you can try to apply for off-campus jobs such as content writing, freelancing, etc. However, you can also pursue higher studies if you do not want to sit for on-campus placements. Currently, I am doing my higher studies from another college.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is very good. Additionally, the college’s location has a good connection for transportation. The library of our college has a good stock of important books. Classrooms are not too modern but they are upgrading them. Hostel facility was not used by me. Food quality is great.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are very helpful but not all of them. The exams are not too easy to clear if you don’t do proper studies. Passing percentage is around 85%. Faculty members may help you better in guiding for placements. Overall, the faculty is good but some of the teachers are very strict.

Great campus life at THC!
Placements: For B.A. Eng. Hons, there are no guaranteed placements, but they do provide paid internships from reputed companies like Tata. The main recruitment opportunities are available for Heritage Institute of Technology. This college doesn't offer any guaranteed placement as such.
Infrastructure: The college has all the basic facilities like an AC library, drinking water, a lift, and spacious classrooms. However, it does not have ACs in classrooms or water coolers, which makes it difficult during summers in Kolkata. Besides that, the college, along with the massive campus, is a clean and delightful place to be in.
Faculty: The faculty for English did undergo lots of changes, but the teachers are mostly friendly to students. There are regular monthly exams for students, helping them prepare for C. U. semesters. The B.A. course doesn't make one industry-ready in that sense, but it does help them get into higher studies.

Course is not sufficient for placements.
Placements: The placement of our college is very bad. I know that our course cannot give us direct placement, but there should be a placement team who can help us guide our placements. No internship opportunities are available. I am not satisfied with the placement scenario.
Infrastructure: The college's infrastructure is average. No high-speed Wi-Fi is available. The library is good compared to other facilities. Food prices are the same as outside, but the college should improve the hostel facility for students. The medical facility is just average on our campus.
Faculty: There is no doubt that all of our faculty members have good degrees and knowledge. But some of them are not friendly. But no suggestions are provided, which has advantages and disadvantages. The passing percentage is around 90%, and some students do not come regularly.

A roller coaster journey.
Placements: No placements are available in our course. Sometimes, I discuss with our seniors to know about job openings. This course is just to get a degree. Currently, I am trying to get a job. The college should help us get jobs off-campus.
Infrastructure: In terms of infrastructure, the college is better than other colleges in this location. But the Wi-Fi becomes slow because the connection is limited and slow. Classrooms are big, and the library has a good stock of books. The food quality of the food court is good, and the prices are the same as outside.
Faculty: All of the faculty members are well qualified. Some of the teachers are very helpful. Their teaching quality is good. The course curriculum is not industry-ready for jobs. The semester examinations are moderate, and my friends clear all the examinations. The passing percentage is almost 100%.
Other: Good college, but bad placements.
