With the nationwide coronavirus lockdown in force, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has invited students to apply for a summer internship in its departments.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has asked students to apply for a summer internship in its departments, amid the nationwide lockdown in force. The institute has also told students that they can also apply to other companies' online internships.

Generally, the students at the IIT-Kharagpur will do an internship from April to June. However, with the lockdown enforced around the country, they are not able to. Keeping that in mind, the institute has taken this initiative.

Responding on the same, Professor Debasis Deb, Dead of Undergraduate Studies, IIT-Kharagpur, said: "The students can work as an intern in ongoing projects in the institute. They can apply for the same by visiting the official website of the institute."

In the meantime, the institute has formed a placement committee to co-ordinate with the companies, to ensure the placement offers made to the students for this year remain consistent amid the COVID-19 outbreak, IIT-Kharagpur said in a statement.

While commenting on the recruitment, the institute said, a total of 1,306 offers were made in 2019-20 fiscal and there has been no cancellation so far.

The IIT-Kharagpur has preponed summer holidays by a month to April 1 due to the coronavirus outbreak and all classes were conducted online since March 24, Deb said.

With the help of online classes, the institute has completed all the classes as per the academic schedule, he added.

Earlier, the Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had appealed to all campus recruiters not to withdraw jobs offered to the graduating students of technical education institutions.
