Showcasing skills and achievements confidently in the interview is essential to be successful in the interview.

Every student is concerned about their career in one way or the other. After completing college, some of the students pursue further studies, however, others work towards getting the right job. As the competition is high in every field these days, hence, the students should focus on cracking the campus interview to get a suitable job.

Important Tips for Placement

1. Research about the organisation

To start preparation for the placement, one should research the company and get details like history, services, branches, etc. as questions related to these details could be asked in the HR round.

2. Prepare for the aptitude test

Most of the companies conduct their ability (aptitude) test to assess the capabilities of the candidate. To prepare for the placement drive, the candidate should practise for the Written Test to achieve a certain cut-off point as required by the company. The Written test includes topics like Maths, English and Logical Reasoning.

3. Make an ideal resume

The resume is the virtual representation of the professional. The resume is that part of the selection process which could never be ignored. It is a preliminary step to shortlist the correct candidate. It’s the first impression of the candidate on the recruiters. The resume should be crisp including details such as projects, internships, workshops, etc.

Do’s:

  1. First page should catch the attention of the interviewer
  2. Use bullets instead of paragraphs
  3. Maintain standard space between sections
  4. Be cautious while mentioning hobbies
  5. Use formal, readable fonts (size 12-14)

Don’ts:

  1. Don’t exceed three to five bullets per section
  2. Don’t make spelling and grammar mistakes
  3. Don’t use jargon/ acronyms as appropriate
  4. Don’t lie about your achievements

The key to achieving success in job interviews is your confidence and poise.

4. Present confidently

After the resume, the next important point is presentation skills. In the interview, it is not confirmed that students with high grades would get selected. The percentage or grades are important, however, it is vital to showcase your skills and achievements. The communication skill should be on point. Along with these other skills like Eye contact, Postures, gestures, facial expressions, and so on are equally important.

  • Be confident
  • Give recruiters a reason to select you
  • Handle stress in high-pressure situations

Some of the basic questions asked during the interview are

  • Tell me something about yourself?
  • Represent yourself with one word.
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • What are your academic achievements?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • Do you want to ask me anything?

Besides having skills, it is highly important for a student to showcase their etiquettes and right behaviour to crack the interview.

In our college, we have a Placement Cell that takes care of all the campus placements. Also, we have Staff and Student Coordinators from every department. I also worked as a Student Placement Coordinator from CSE Dept. for three years. The Placement Cell provides training sessions and mock interviews from alumni of the college. These would help in enhancing the skills required to clear the interview.

By following all tips and tricks I have cracked the interview and got placement in three topmost MNC companies.
