From Class 10 to College: A Journey of Self-Discovery at Academy of Technology (AOT)

3 mins readUpdated on Nov 27, 2024 11:56 IST

Beginning of a New Chapter

At first glance, college life seemed intimidating. The white blank walls and new faces made me feel intimidated. However, all that intimidation disappeared because when I entered the class, all the faces were as confused as mine. I sat beside a girl and eventually started to introduce myself and gradually everyone became acquainted. I made the best friends here in college. They are funny, caring and everything, all I could ask for.

A Snippet of the past

I was a 15-year-old with no goals and worries about the future. I scored 90+ in the class 10 examination. I was a bit dissatisfied with the score, but, my mom’s smile made me satisfied about the results. As a 90+ scorer, the only stream I could think of was Science but I hated Biology, thus, Computer Science seemed the best for me. So, I chose PCM+CS for Class 11 and 12. Eventually, I grew curious about coding. It didn’t take me a long time to learn to code in Python, I enjoyed coding thoroughly.

I never imagined myself being an Engineer. After class 12 was over, I knew I wanted to do something related to Computer Science only, and choosing Engineering as my career came to mind first. The names of coaching centers for entrance exams made me nervous. So, I never went to one. I prepared myself for JEE and WBJEE on my own through online resources. My school teachers were really supportive and always provided study material for preparation too.

Q:   How to crack JEE Mains in first attempt?

A:

Hi aspirant!

Clearing the JEE Main exam in first attempt is not a difficult task. If we see the year over year statistics, the ratio of students who clear JEE Main in first attempt is high in comparison to students who dropped a year after class 12. One thing that makes it easy to clear JEE Main with class 12 is that students are in regular touch of most JEE syllabus. To score good marks in JEE Main in the first attempt, it is advised that you study class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, clear all the concepts and solve mock test papers. Also, NCERT books which you study in class 11 and 12 are the best books for JEE Main preparation. Students must study NCERT properly and solve all the questions in the book and do not memorize the concepts as some students do rather understand the concepts.

Hope this cleared your doubt. Best wishes!

Q:   How much time is required to prepare for JEE Mains?

A:

The time required to prepare for JEE Mains depends on several factors, such as your current knowledge level, the amount of time you can dedicate to studying, and your desired level of excellence. However, here are some general guidelines:

  1. Ideally, you should start preparing for JEE Mains at least 6-8 months before the exam date. This will give you ample time to cover the entire syllabus, practice mock tests, and analyse your performance.
  2. If you have already started preparing, it's essential to make a time table and stick to it. Allocate at least 6-8 hours daily for studying, and ensure that you take regular breaks to avoid burnout.
  3. It's important to note that the amount of time required to prepare for JEE Mains can vary depending on your current knowledge level. If you have a strong foundation in the subjects, you may require less time, whereas if you need to build your fundamentals, you may need more time.
  4. Additionally, it's important to remember that studying smartly is more crucial than studying for a long time. Focus on understanding the concepts, practicing challenging problems, and analyzing your performance regularly.

In conclusion, the amount of time required to prepare for JEE Mains can vary depending on several factors. However, ideally, you should start preparing at least 6-8 months before the exam date, and make a study plan that suits your needs and schedule. Remember to study smartly, practice regularly, and analyze your performance to achieve your desired score.

Q:   Can I prepare for JEE Mains in 4 months?

A:

To get a good rank in JEE and make to the IIT, you need to have a strategic planning that suits the present format of selection. The present format demands an all-round performance as it considers your Board Examination, JEE Mains and Advanced. Here are certain points that would help you.

  • Understand the JEE Mains syllabus and start reading the NCERT books thoroughly. The NCERT books are written by some of the best brains of India and these books are quite precise and concise. Your preparation must start with NCERT books. Read these books thoroughly and solve all the back exercises. Also try the example problems for further practice of objective questions. Remember that reading and understanding the NCERT books are not the same thing.
  • Solve previous year JEE Main question papers to understand your preparation level. It will also help in understanding the difficulty level of the exam and chapterwise weightage of various topics.
  • Solve JEE Main mock tests regularly to enhance time management and problem solving skills

My 1st JEE attempt didn’t go well. But, I scored decent marks in the 2nd attempt. Finally, I got admission by scoring well in the WBJEE exam. I went through counselling and ultimately chose Academy of Technology, Adisaptagram for B.Tech in Computer Science and Business System.

WBJEE counselling and AOT

I really wanted to get admitted to HIT, HALDIA. I even had the rank to get into ECE but I had to place it at lower position in the preference list because my medical condition would not have allowed me to stay in the hostel. I went to Academy of Technology (AOT) for the first time for counselling. I loved the campus immediately as it was situated in the rurals away from the buzz of the Urban, yet not much far from the busy air of Kolkata. The campus of AOT is really magnificent, looks breath-taking during sunsets, with the yellow and white walls of the college adding into the campus.

I chose Computer Science and Business System as my discipline at AOT. The reason was not only that I like coding but also Business System for my increasing interest in entrepreneurship. The discipline as a whole seemed really interesting making me curious for my future possibilities. The campus of AOT and my course seemed like the perfect combination, campus in lush green village provided the perfect environment for learning and tech enthusiast professors being added to the list. One more thing I loved about the college is the student clubs, and the communities. All these seemed like a cherry on the cake. Now that I look back, I realise how much the college has helped me get matured. Meeting new faces every day, making friends, learning new things, participating in clubs and communities even getting scolded by the professors has added a new face to my personality.

Q:   Is one month sufficient for JEE Main preparation?

A:
One month is not sufficient for JEE Main preparation if a student has not started preparing or have not studied earlier for the exam. As the syllabus of JEE Main is vast, studying all the topics and remembering them take a lot of effort. However, class 12 student can get a decent score in JEE Main if time after the bard exam is devoted exclusively for the JEE preparation. Since most topics of JEE Main and class 12 are similar, students need to revise all the topics and solve previous year JEE Main question papers. Start solving JEE Main mock test papers at last 3-4 days before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the exam.

Q:   How many months are required to prepare for JEE Mains exam?

A:
The time period required to complete the JEE Main preparation depends mainly on the students. Every student has their own pace of study. Ideally, 6-month time is good enough to complete the JEE Main preparation. Students who have started preparing from class 11 or 12 can easily prepare for JEE Main. In 6 months considering the topics of JEE syllabus have already been studied in classes 11 and 12. JEE Main preparation is most effective with classes 11 and 12 as almost 90-95 percent of topics are similar in both exams. This way students can easily complete the entire JEE Main. Syllabus as well as the syllabus of classes 11 and 12. After the board exams, students get 2-3 months' time where they can focus entirely on JEE Main. Students who have started late for the JEE Main exam can make a 6-month plan where in the first three months they have to focus on revising the syllabus studied in classes 11 and 12. In the next two months focus on solving questions of JEE Main and analyzing the mistakes being made, if any. The last month should be focused on solving mock tests and JEE Main previous year question papers.

Q:   How to score good marks in JEE Mains?

A:
To score good marks in JEE Mains, study NCERT books thoroughly. NCERT books are the best to understand the basic concepts. In JEE Main exam, questions are asked that test students' conceptual and analytical understanding. So, students should build their conceptual knowledge and solve numerical problems on every topic. Another essential piece of advice is to solve the previous year's paper to gain insight into the exam's difficulty level and how questions are asked.

Q:   How to prepare for JEE Main from Class 11th and 12th?

A:
Starting the JEE Main preparation from class 11 or 12 is the best time. As JEE Main syllabus consists of topics from class 11 and 12, students can easily cover all the topics along with school. Students can begin by checking the topics that is covered in both school and JEE Main and give special attention to them. For all three subjects, study NCERT and also take help from reference books. Understand the concepts thoroughly and solve numerical problems. To crack JEE Main along with class 12, students should devote at least 2-3 hours for JEE beside class 12 studies. Regularly solve JEE Main mock test and solve previous year question papers to evaluate the performance.

Q:   Which are the most scoring and easy chapters from chemistry for JEE Mains?

A:
Hi JEE Main Chemistry Important Topics (with 2-3 Questions each) Atomic Structure. Gaseous State. Hydrocarbons. Aldehydes and Ketones. D & f Block Elements. General Organic Chemistry.

ARCADIA-The Annual Fest

We recently had our annual cultural fest called the ARCADIA which was, of course, a blast. We had a mind blowing concert by Salim-Sulaiman too. All the students and professors danced with great enthusiasm. It was hilarious sewing the professors who always taunted and scolded us for every minor mistake dancing crazily. Overall, we had a great experience. It was quite a memorable day for all of us.

Future Goals

I hope that I get a wonderful college life ahead also. I am ready to explore myself and new places. I hope that when the college ends, I have millions of memories to share, lots of story to write and a job with a decent CTC. I am looking forward to challenges and growth.
