IIT Hyderabad creates hand sanitizers, provides 100 litres every day to local district administration
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad has been distributing 100 litres of hand sanitizers each day to the Sangareddy District Administration. These hand sanitizers have been made by a team of researchers at the institute.
In order to avoid further spread of coronavirus, the team of researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad are not only making hand sanitizers but have also been supplying 100 litres each day to the Sangareddy District Administration.
A research team is led by Dr. Jyotsnendu Giri, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad. The institute is handing over the hand sanitizers to the Sangareddy Collectorate, which is then given to the local population.
Dr Giri’s research team has developed these hand sanitizers using their own compositions including Isopropanol/ethanol, Mecetronium Ethyl Sulphate, Glycerol, Brilliant Blue and Fragrance (Jasmin/clove/lavender oil).
The hand sanitizers have been made as per the standard recommended by the World Health Organisation and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It has been shared with the IIT Hyderabad community since March.
Professor B.S.Murthy, Director, IIT Hyderabad while speaking about this initiative said, " The novel coronavirus pandemic is tightening its grip around the globe. IIT Hyderabad is geared up to help the society, the nation and the world at large, through our research and other support to the local community. The institute initially had prepared hand sanitizer for the in-house use only. However, after looking at the demand and the scarcity of this product, the institute is now preparing and delivering about 100 litres of sanitizers every day to the district administration.”
Dr. Giri along with technical staff, including Vijaya Kumar and Jaya Lakshmi, are making these hand sanitizers.
