IIT Roorkee professor develops surveillance system to track COVID-19 patients
IIT Roorkee professor has developed a surveillance system to keep track of the suspected and infected COVID-19 patients.
In order to help the government in its effort to find out of COVID-19 affected people, Dr. Kamal Jain, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, has developed a unique tracking mobile application, which is equipped with state-of-the-art features.
This mobile application can track the infected individuals and can do geofencing around them. The application will send an alert to the system or concerned authorities if the geofencing is violated by the infected quarantined person, IIT Roorkee said in a statement.
In the case of non-availability of the network in a certain area, the location will be sent to the concerned authority through SMS. If the GPS data is not received, the location will be sent automatically through the triangulation of mobile towers.
If the application gets off, an alert will be received immediately. The location of the person can be received by sending an SMS to the device.
The application also allows the sharing of quarantined persons and places photographs on a Google map, uploading the geotag image to a server. The authorities can check all the reports on a map. If the application is installed by an affected person, it will provide a history of all the people with whom he/she came in contact within his vicinity for a defined period, the institute said in a statement.
"In the case of overcrowding at any location at any given point of time, this state-of-the-art surveillance will immediately inform the authority. This way the government will be able to track all those who are violating the guidelines and directives issued by the government," said Professor Jain,
The surveillance system is a plug and play device and allows tracking with an accuracy of +/- 5 meters through notifications at 2, 10 or 20 seconds.
Other features of the app include multi-camera support, surveillance magnetic device, halt time and auto camera click on preset time.
