IITR, MoRTH, and IRC have decided to collaborate in the areas of mutual interest with a special focus in the spirit of scholarly exchange, intellectual cooperation, and the development of the partnership.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee signs an MOU with Indian Roads Congress (IRC), New Delhi and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Govt. of India (MoRTH) recently. After a discussion IITR, IRC and MoRTH have agreed to collaborate in the areas of mutual interest with a special focus in the spirit of scholarly exchange, intellectual cooperation, and the development of the partnership.

The pact was signed by I K Pandey DG (RD) & Special Secretary Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India (MoRTH), M. Parida Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, and S.K. Nirmal, Secretary-General IRC, New Delhi.  

While talking about the MoU’s aim, IIT Roorkee’s deputy director, M Parida said that the main purpose behind signing this MoU is to develop road safety audit tool that will help identify safety issues and remedial measures on highways and streets and work towards improving road traffic safety in the country. He also added that the institute is delighted to collaborate with IRC and MoRTH, and would be pleased to contribute to the prestigious programme.

With expert faculty in traffic & transportation engineering and road safety and necessary infrastructure facility, the leading training institution has decided to start with 15 days curriculum/course for road safety and safety audit training and other related matters. It will emerge over time for the benefit of highway engineers/road departments finalised by the expert committee headed by DG (RD), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India (MoRTH) to maintain uniformity throughout the country.
