Involvement of my parents in my college life has increased: Zaid, MIT
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
Q. With exams being postponed, how are you keeping up with extended preparations?
A. I am in the last year of my graduation and our exams usually happen in the month of May. Until now, no notification has been issued regarding the date of our examination but we have been given a hint that if the situation doesn’t change soon, the university might resort to an online assessment sooner or later. Preparations on my personal side are going intact since we have a regular project online assessment going on. Regarding the final exam preparation, the university has started online lectures which are basically helping the flow go on.
Q. If you are planning to appear for any competitive exam- how are you making the most of this time?
A. I am planning to appear for IELTS and GRE. I couldn’t have asked for a better time for preparation for these exams since they require a lot of extra effort and dedication and also time management skills since you have to manage time properly if you are engaged in any other activity. I am dedicating a total of 5 hours for both the exams i.e. 2 hours for IELTS and 3 hours for GRE on a regular basis with dedication. There are many online resources and offline guides that I am referring to. For these exams, you regularly need to check your knowledge and test your progress so you can understand exactly where you need to focus your efforts.
Q. Are your parents more involved in your ‘college life’ now since they can listen to/participate in your conversations more easily?
A. Yes, I feel the involvement of my parents in my college life has increased due to the current situation. Now my parents receive regular updates from the university regarding the changes which are being implemented to help the students in the curriculum. My parents are in fact happy that they can interact with the faculties of my college on a regular basis which has kept everything in check.
