Mystory@Arpita Mukherjee: My fascination for coding decided my UG course
Just like any other Higher Secondary student, my dream too was to experience college life. However, my journey was a little different. My ship sailed through both stormy days and sunny days.
I did not take coaching for JEE or AIEEE. I did not even have enough money to fill JEE form so I settled for AIEEE. And all I had to myself was self-study. I scored a decent rank in General category and got Dewan V.S. institute of Engineering & Technology, Meerut through counselling. Now the twist in the tail – I did not really have the financial stability to pursue B Tech and my only hope was student loan. I opted for bank loan and after much struggle I got a loan. I will be eternally grateful to Rajarshi Bhatt, the bank official and my uncle Kanu for this. On the basis of my past academic records, half of my college fee was also waived off, which was a huge relief. That's ow my ship started sailing.
I opted for Computer Science branch as I have always been fascinated with the world of coding and app development. This branch of engineering offered me a change to quench my thirst for knowledge and become a developer.
The bittersweet memories of college
The four years of the college were filled with bittersweet experiences.
Sweet memories: I was crowned Miss Fresher, won inter college debates and national accolade from the United Nations for Water Conservation Programme
Bitter memories: Heart break which ruined a semester's percentage.
My teachers were talented, helpful and supportive. I found an excellent guide in my HOD Mrs Shilpi Bansal.
While I was in my last year, I got placed with HCL Services Corporation and the credit goes to the teachers of my college.
Coming to the hostel life, it is the most amazing phase of a college student. Late night gossips, tension during exams, midnight Maggi party, birthday celebrations, Holi party, everything used to be celebrated on a large scale. We had DJ nights too in the hostel. Also we were entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of the juniors and make them feel at home, which was fun and challenging. All in all, hostel life is a time cherish.
Had I been given the chance to spend these years in a different way, I would really not have opted for it. I always wanted to experience what it really feels like to be a part of a hostel and understand the changes that come in your life if you stay in a hostel.
Yes, I do and will always cherish my college life, but if given a chance again, I would like to pursue Journalism and not Computer Science. Reason being, I love the adventurous life of media reporters.
But as they say, whatever happens in your life, happens for the best, I am now working with Acro Service Corp as an Onboarding Specialist and trust me I could not have been more content than I am now.
I have figured out my destiny and wish others do the same.
