My college helped me a lot in developing my personality : Rishav Kumar
“Selecting the perfect course at the undergraduate level is very important as it decides the fate of the student. If you choose a course that you like you will blossom in your career and if not then the regret will be lifelong.”
I had read the above line somewhere and it helped me a lot in deciding the course I am currently enrolled in. When I was in school, I was keenly interested in Science and Mathematics. So, I was sure I will make my career in the field related to these subjects and decided that engineering would be the correct choice for me.
In the beginning, there was an ocean of options in front of me and every other relative suggested me to select some or the other course. So, I started researching all the courses like what are the topics we have to study in a particular course? , where do we go after completion of that course? , how much will I earn. After that, I started questioning myself “Am I interested in those topics?” Whether I will be able to do well in those topics? The course that answered the maximum number of my questions positively was engineering and so here I am pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
Tip: Don’t get pressurized by what others say about the course YOU should take, as it is YOU who has to study.
Like any other student who wants to get into a good engineering college, I started preparing for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced and was unsuccessful in getting into an IIT or NIT. I failed by 4 marks and was in no mood of appearing for JEE again so I started searching for other colleges where I could get the desired branch. While researching about the colleges and the courses, my ultimate option was Shiksha.com. It helped me to select my current college i.e. National Institute of Science and Technology and I am totally happy with my choice.
In my college, admission is given based on OJEE-Counselling where we were first given floating seats and then the seats were confirmed at the college itself.
I didn’t take any coaching for the entrance exams, all I did was self-study and cleared my doubts by discussing them with my friends who went for the coaching. I started studying for the entrance exam just after my boards and got a decent score after a month’s study.
I was not interested in going far away from home for studies. So, I looked for the best option available and with the help of Shiksha.com again I selected my current college.
Like most of the other engineering colleges, our college also starts at 11:20 am. We come in the morning by our college bus and directly go to attend lectures of 100 minutes each. We get 15 minutes break in between the lectures. The lectures are pretty knowledgeable and even the attendance matters a lot. So, I generally don’t miss any of my classes. I like Programming and Mathematics lectures.
After two continuous classes, we have our lunch, and after lunch, we go out with our friends for some coffee and lots of laughter and then back again to the class followed by a lab session of 150 minutes. After all this, we get dispersed from college to our respective hostels and Pgs'.
As my 2nd year has just started about a week ago, I am currently not a part of any extra-curricular activity but I want to join the coding club and NCS (NIST Consulting Services). For a non-technical club, if given a chance I would love to play drums.
My college helped me a lot in developing my personality. I hesitated to communicate in English with anyone but here I got to interact with new people belonging to different communities having different mother-tongue. English was the only available medium to interact with them. So, I had to step out of my comfort zone and communicate in English. Now, I am pretty confident about my English and there are many more incidents like this that helped me in becoming a better person. I made many new friends from different places, different communities and got to know a lot about different people, their beliefs and diverse cultures.
In the college annual fest, we get a chance to show our talent. We learn many new things from the fest and it is the only time when everyone enjoys a lot.
