My journey from college admissions to first job: Sai Venkat Ravi Teja Ande

4 mins readUpdated on Aug 7, 2018 13:16 IST

I have always been very interested in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. So I opted for PCM at the intermediate level. Since childhood, I’ve been very passionate about mechanical engineering. I used to repair mixers, grinders, bikes, etc. I used to break everything first and then fix it. That’s why I was interested in mechanical engineering and I finally opted for that branch only.

My admission journey

In our state, AP EAMCET is a common entrance test for admissions to any higher degree educational institution. I got a rank around 12000 and got a seat in my college. I only appeared for EAMCET exam as through the exam, one can get admissions to government colleges as well. I cracked a seat through it.

I completed my intermediate from Sir Chaitanya College, Guntupalli. Everyone knows about Sri Chaitanya and Narayana Colleges - they stress a lot on getting good marks. In the college, they conducted special classes for EAMCET exam. Every day, we focused on entrance exam preparation for at least 12 hours. Due to this preparation, I could finally crack the exam easily.

Tips to crack EAMCET

  • Prepare daily using notes, formulas, key points, etc
  • Mathematics is very easy, but Physics is very logical and we must understand all the things.
  • Understand the given data and what is asked, then think which formula should be used to get the correct solution.
  • Work hard and crack a rank below 20000 in EAMCET. Then you will surely get a seat in my college.

How I chose my college?

Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering and Technology, Vijayawada is a reputed college. I enquired about the college from a lot of people and mostly all of them gave good reviews about the college. Many other people too advised me to join the college. I trusted their suggestion and finally cracked a seat in the college.

College life

My college life was fantastic. I had a good experience. However, in almost every college, there is a lack of skilled faculty and it is very common in our state. We got irritated a lot of times.

In the first year, every branch has same subjects like English, M1, Chemistry, Mechanics, Computer Programming, Environmental Science, M2, M3, Physics, Professional Ethics and Human Values, Engineering Drawing, and labs.

In the second year, we started studying our core subjects. I got to study subjects like Metallurgy & Material Sciences, Mechanics of Solids, Thermodynamics, Managerial Economics and Financial Analysis, Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Kinematics of Machinery, Thermal Engineering 1, Production Technology, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Machinery, Machine Drawing.

In the third year, there were subjects like Dynamics of Machinery, Metal Cutting and Machine Tools, Design of Machine Members 1 and 2, Instrumentation and Control Systems, Thermal Engineering 2, Metrology, Operations Research, Interactive Computer Graphics, Robotics, Heat Transfer, and Departmental Elective Subject.

In the fourth year, the subjects were Automobile Engineering, Cad/Cam, Finite Element Analysis, Unconventional Machining Processes, Open Elective, Departmental Elective, Production Planning and Control, Green Engineering, and Two Departmental Electives.

In our college, everything was very strict. They did not even support students with internal marks. At the end of the day, every mechanical engineering student must and should know the technical procedure of planning, scheduling and realizing an engineering product, and further acquire the skills of technical report writing and data collection.

My first job

I got placed in Tech Mahindra and Tata Motors. If we have command on technical skills and good communications skills, then we can easily get placed in any mechanical-related company.

I believe I chose the right career. Currently, I am pursuing coaching classes to crack CAT exam this September. In MBA, there’s a branch named Operations Management. It is somewhat related to mechanical branch. So I’ve decided to pursue MBA in this specialization from an IIM.

Learnings

I think, in the second year, I had made many small mistakes which included neglecting my studies and concentrating on other activities. I was not satisfied with the faculty. In the second year, there were many core subjects like, MOS and TD. They were a bit tough. We had to concentrate more on those subjects as those were the basics of mechanical engineering. I did not do that. Later, I realized this and learnt about those subjects very clearly and perfectly.

My college education has helped me in establishing my career. Not every student is capable of studying or understanding every topic easily. Some may need faculty, while some may have the capability to learn through internet or somewhere else. I believe that my college is good not only in terms of studies but also overall growth of its students.

All I want to say to people reading this story is - Follow your heart and you will definitely reach your destination.
