Mystory@Shweta Jindal: How I chose my course and college
It was not easy for me to get admission in an engineering course. Actually, I did not get good marks in 12th standard. My parents were worried and they thought that I should go for BSc or BTech. One major problem was that I did my schooling from the UP board, hence, English was a big concern. However, my parents believed in me and I couldn’t break their trust.
So, I worked hard and when the first semester results were declared. I had 56% marks without any back and that was a great achievement for me. Time passed and in my final semester, I secured 80% marks.
My College Life: Classes, extra-curricular activities and more
My Engineering branch was Electronics and Communication. In the first semester, when I went through the course syllabus, I found it very difficult. I was not very good in English and in my course there was a subject named Professional Communication. In that subject it was compulsory for everyone to speak in English in the class.
I managed to sail through for a long time but one day the professor caught me. In the sessional exam, one of the questions that came was related to our 12th standard poetry book. The chapter’s name slipped from my mind but I wrote the answer in my own way. It is a known fact that students from UP board have good grammar but are not fluent with the language. Same was the case with me, I was very good at writing the sentences instead of speaking. It was then that my professor came to me and said, “Shweta, I want you to read your answer sheet loudly.” I was shocked but was very happy too. While reading, I was shivering inside. After this incident I was never afraid of that lecture and of English.
I participated in the poster presentation activity and skit. I never enjoyed hostel life because the college was near my home and I was the only person in my class who was a day-scholar.
My life was very simple – college to home and home to college by bus. Now I think that I missed all the good days like I never watched any movie in all the four years and never hung out with my friends. This is the reason why I do not have friends, because I spoke to everyone in the college but not in that masti kind of way. It was enough for me that I was in the good books of some of my faculty members.
I believe that no one is perfect in this world. Live your life, be selfish sometimes and the main thing is to never ever have expectations because when things do not go according to the way you thought they would, it hurts and disturbs your personal and professional life.
