At the end, it’s the interest that matters: Vivek Nagar
As I am currently pursuing my Engineering, it would be obvious to you that I had chosen non-medical after my 10th. Like everyone, I was also a person who was crazy about getting into an IIT or NIT for pursuing my Bachelors. I too was made to join coaching centers like Aakash, Vidyamandir, etc. which most of the people join thinking that it would probably guarantee them a seat in one of the top institutions. In that dream, I didn’t realise that I wasn’t able to clear my concepts to the extent that they should have been. I felt that in order to complete the syllabus, the coaching centers were completing the syllabus too fast. Therefore, the first thing that I would suggest you is to find a place where you can get your concepts cleared. You don’t need big names but you need to look out for a good tutor with whom you are comfortable with to discuss each of your doubts.
My journey and what I learnt
Your interest and dedication matter a lot while you are preparing for the paper. There are many instances where it takes time to grasp the concepts, so showing perseverance in such situations matters a lot. One needs to keep oneself motivated throughout these two years; ultimately, it’s just an exam. Having cleared the concepts, half of the job is done, and the other half is how efficiently you manage time. Solving past years’ question papers and having proper time-management skills matter a lot. It’s better to enrol yourself to an All-India test series as it shows you at what level you are standing on an All-India level and the amount of effort one needs to put in further. Being motivated has a great role to play, so never be demoralised in your journey.
It’s not all about the college
While you are filling up the forms, it’s better that you fill up the forms of some good engineering entrance exams too. As in my case, my Mains paper was an absolute mess. My morale was down and I couldn’t properly attempt it up to my potential. It was so bad that I couldn’t even appear for Advanced. I was shattered and wasn’t aware of what’s next. You can’t let your dreams be shattered in front of your eyes. I also appeared for UPSEE and somehow I got a decent rank to enrol myself into a good college. It was a tough decision to make whether to drop or get myself admitted. And I opted for getting admitted and pursuing my higher studies.
I didn’t regret my decision. In fact, none of you should. There’s nothing wrong in it. One can prepare while studying in the college too since one gets a lot of time in the college. In fact, in the 1st year, there is not much to study, so it is always better to get oneself enrolled.
The thing I realized is that it’s not all about the college. Yes, I won’t be getting the level of education as I would have gotten in an IIT, but the road is still not blocked. The time is yours and if you are really interested, then nothing can stop you, not even your college. There is Internet where you can learn almost everything. This is the time where your interests come into play. One has a lot of time in the college to experiment and decide the right way in. If you are still that dedicated, you can give Mains the following year and if you have prepared well, you will luckily get your dream college. If things are not in your favour, you will still be having a college and you will be promoted to the next year too. Thus, you will be in a perfect position. In fact, I get enough time to do almost anything I want to do. Frankly speaking, there’s isn’t much difference between colleges until and unless it’s an IIT or NIT.
That’s all. I will conclude by saying that my college is not one of the best colleges in the nation, but it never stops me from doing things at my best. It’s not the college, it’s the interest that matters.
