NIT Agartala BTech students can get admission to IIT Delhi

They can also look out for direct admission to the PhD programme at IIT Delhi without qualifying Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) or any other national level examination.

Students who have finished BTech, or BTech-MTech dual degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala can now join the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as a PhD fellow. For collaboration on academic activities, the two institutes have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Students can also check the alternative of semester-long internship (project) and commence courses at IIT-Delhi. They can also look out for direct admission to the PhD programme at IIT Delhi without qualifying Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) or any other national level examination.

However, candidates are meant to sustain a CGPA of 8.00 or more after their sixth semester of study and eighth semester for dual degree students as well as at the time of graduation. As part of this programme, the BTech (or BTech -MTech) degrees will still come from NIT-A, but part of those programmes will be finished at IIT Delhi.

According to Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT-Delhi, the MoU will empower meritorious students of NIT Agartala to do a portion of their study and project at IIT Delhi and also get early admission in the PhD programme.

According to Prof HK Sharma, Director of NIT Agartala, The partnership will offer unique exposure to the students of NIT Agartala and a competitive atmosphere to the graduates of IIT-Delhi. After selection, the students will have an offer of admission to the PhD programme. The final approval of this offer will be done by a selection panel that will assess their coursework and/or research during their stay in IIT-D. It is foreseen that this programme will also help NIT-A students to improve their chances of succeeding for the PMRF fellowship for PhD at IIT Delhi.
