The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has said that despite the ongoing medical crisis due to coronavirus outbreak in the country, the placement has not been hampered so far.
"With the extension in the lockdown period, IIT Guwahati will be compliant to the coronavirus lockdown rules and regulations. The institute is already conducting online classes for more than 350 courses that are offered on campus from April 4 and will continue these classes until May 15. The institute is planning to conduct the examination in July and will welcome new students for the academic year 2020-21 in August," the institute said in a statement.
IIT Guwahati said in a statement that "The institute is happy to note that placements have not been impacted so far. No offers, domestic or international, have been withdrawn. Some of the companies have postponed the date of joining in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country. For internships, the institute is trying to work out the option of work from home with the companies. The institute is doing everything to help students during this time."
Earlier, the Human Resource Development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ''Nishank'' had requested all the recruiters to not cancel any job offers that were made to graduating students during the campus placements this year. Most of the IITs and IIMs around the country had reported 100 percent placements this year.
He had also directed directors of all the IITs and IIMs around the country to hold a special placement drives for the students whose job offers were revoked during coronavirus outbreak.
The move came after it emerged that several companies rescinded the offers they made to students from various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
