Students' Speak: All you need to know about internship & placement
By: M.V Divya
Every student should attend campus placements to overcome their fear and build up confidence, says Divya.
1. Internship
Students are really confused regarding internship (to do or not to do). According to me internship is “A practical way to perform real-time applications of what we earlier studied theoretically”.
An internship is not compulsory. It depends on the student’s interest to do or not to do. Internship in reputed organizations is really beneficial. Internships should only be related to core of what you studied so far.
But if you want to focus on your master’s then research what entrance examination is needed to get into master’s. If you are interested in doing a job then focus and build your skills accordingly.
2. Placement Eligibility
In my college, the eligibility criteria for B.Tech students for courses-ECE, CSE, EEE, Civil are:
∙ Academics: 60-65% aggregate
∙ Attendance: 75%
∙ Extracurricular activities: Sports, NCC
∙ Backlogs: not more than 2-3
It is really mandatory to clear backlogs before placements so that students get focused completely on interviews, placement preparation rather than clearing backlog subjects.
3. Post-placement Details
In my college, the companies visited so far this year are:
ALIENS Group
VEON
RUBITECH
UNICAREER
The minimum package offered is 2.4 LPA and the maximum is 5 LPA. Students who were placed in the above companies were from ECE and CSE branches. For the civil branch, companies will take a drive in the month of March. There is no MECH branch for this year in my college.
I am an ECE branch student. Our branch strength is 80 (both boys & girls). 30 students were placed in the above companies. The offer letters were also issued to the students.
More companies are yet to take placement drive in the month of March offering
from 8 LPA-12 LPA.
4. Questions asked during my interview
- Talk about C language
- What is your favourite subject in the course (ECE) with a brief analysis of the subject.
- Management skills
- HR questions
In my view, every student should attend campus placements to overcome their fear and build up confidence. As we know the fact that “Failures are stepping stones of success”, we must try until we get succeed. Not every student gets a job in the campus placements. Try for both on-campus and off-campus until we get the job. Exploring new opportunities is important.
