Students' Speak: One should focus on both “What to speak ” and “How to speak”
By: M.V Divya
Technical Skills is highly recommended as students spend 3-4 years (B.Tech/B.E or any other degree) for that particular course. So they must be aware of the problems and technical related issues and how to solve those issues.
Placement definitely plays an important role in every student’s life. In my view, preparation for placement is necessary because every student should know the basic etiquettes like what to speak, how to speak, etc.
Placement Preparation: Every student should focus and prepare accordingly. Certain things to be taken care of are -
∙ Body Language
∙ Hand Gestures
∙ Body posture while attending an interview
∙ Maintaining eye contact
∙ Confidence
All the above qualities and skills are required before attending an interview which helps to overcome -
∙ Nervousness while speaking
∙ Lack of confidence
∙ Errors while speaking (due to Mother Tongue influence)
One should focus on both “what to speak ” and “how to speak”. Dress like a professional. There is a saying-“First impression is the best impression”. Interviewer (one who conducts an interview) can assess whether you are proficient enough in your field (course) or not just by looking at you. Therefore, dressing up decently is very important as per the rules provided (both for male and female candidates).
Just A Minute (JAM) & Group Discussion (GD)
Usually these are conducted in Round 1 by the majority of companies. So students must follow all the rules (both For JAM & GD) while participating in these sessions. As we are aware of the saying -“Practice makes a man perfect”, every student should practice more in order to get qualified. Technical Skills is highly recommended as students spend 3-4 years (B.Tech/B.E or any other degree) for that particular course. So they must be aware of the problems and technical related issues and how to solve those issues. To identify the problems, one must be good enough in their technical area.
HR Interview usually it is the last phase of the interview process where an HR personnel conducts the interview. The aim of HR is to test the student how active he/she is and whether he/she is ready to face the challenges or not.
My college has a placement cell with a placement officer who consistently focuses on students’ placements. Recently, Campus Recruitment Training (CRT) classes were conducted for 10 days where Resume Building, Aptitude, C Language was taught. It is a great initiative by our college management for the betterment for a student’s career. Apart from CRT classes, GD, JAM, Aptitude, Java classes were also conducted.
