Union Public Service Commission conduct the Engineering Service Exam (ESE) which is popularly called as the IES exam. The IES is the name of the Indian Engineering Service. IES 2025 Notification

The UPSC Engineering Service Exam (ESE) 2025 notification was released online on the official website of UPSC. The Commission has shifted the notification date by two weeks in comparison to the earlier notification dates. The Commission mentioned the application dates, examination dates and other important rules and regulations which will govern the conduct of exam. IES 2025 Vacancies

The Union Public Service Commission notified 232 vacancies for the Engineering Service Exam 2025. These vacancies are bound to increase because of the inclusion of the Indian Railway Management Servic vacancies in the exam. The Commission did not mention the post-wise vacancies for the candidates. The Commission accept the vacancy requisition from the concerned departments till the IES prelims exam which is till June 8, 2025, it means that the Commission will accept the requisitions from the departments till this date.

IES Exam 2025 Eligibility Criteria

It is mandatory for candidates to comply with the eligibility norms as prescribed by UPSC in order to appear for the Engineering Services Examination. The admissions at all three stages of the examination will be purely provisional and are subject to fulfilling the eligibility norms.

Criteria	Eligibility
Nationality	Candidates should be: A citizen of India/ A subject of Nepal, Bhutan or Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962. A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Ethiopia or Vietnam, intending to stay in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Age Limit	Aspirants must have attained an age of 21 years and must not have attained an age of 30 years on January 1, 2025. Candidates should not be born earlier than January 2, 1995, and not later than January 1, 2004.
Physical Examination	Candidates must be physically fit for the admission to Engineering Service Examination as per the guidelines mentioned
Educational Qualification	A candidate must possess: Degree in Engineering from a recognised university Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) Obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University college which is recognised in India Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II & III or Sections A & B of the Aeronautical Society of India Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics & Radio Engineers, London held after November 1959 For Naval Armament Service – MSc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject. For Indian Radio Regulatory Service – MSc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject or MSc with Physics and Radio Communication or Electronics or Telecommunication as a special subject.

IES Exam 2025 Age Limit

The upper age limit of 30 years is relaxable up to 35 years with government servants serving in the following categories:

Note: Relaxation will not be considered to probationary officers appointed against a permanent post. However, relaxation in case of probation will be considered if the officer appointed already retains a lien on a permanent post in a Department/Office under the control of authorities as listed above.

Age Relaxation in Case of Railways

Officers serving Indian Railways will also be treated at par with the Indian Railways officers for age relaxation. The upper age limit for various categories is given below:

Note: Candidates belonging to the reserved category and from any of the mentioned ex-servicemen categories will get cumulative age relaxation.

IES Exam Process

Step 1: IES Application Form 2025

The candidates filled out the IES application form 2025 online after registration. The forms were available online on the official website of UPSC
While filling up the form, candidates had to select the preferred venue for the test centre
After filling out the form, the candidates submitted the prescribed application fees as per their category

Step 2: Download IES Admit Card 2025

The IES admit card 2025 will be issued on the official website for downloads. The candidates will need their application number and date of birth to download the admit card
UPSC admit card is an important document having a variety of information. We suggest preserving the admit cards until the admission process is successfully conducted

Step 3: IES Preliminary Exam 2025

Students need to appear for IES 2025 preliminary entrance exam as per the schedule mentioned in the important date’s section
Aspirants are advised to reach the exam centre at least an hour before the commencement of the exam

Step 4: IES Prelims Result 2025

IES 2025 prelims result will be declared within a month of the prelims exam.
Candidates checked their IES preliminary results by simply submitting their application number and date of birth on the official website.
After the IES Result for prelims, the candidates filled IES Main Detailed Application Form(DAF) for the IES Main Exam.

Step 5: IES Main Exam 2025

Students who clear the IES preliminary examination will be allowed to appear for IES 2025 main exam. The UPSC ESE (IES) main 2025 was conducted on June 25.
Aspirants were advised to reach the exam centre at least an hour before the commencement of the IES Main exam

Step 6: IES Main Result

UPSC will declare the IES main result in August (tentatively).
Candidates will be able to check their IES main results once announced, by simply submitting their application number and date of birth on the official website.
Candidates who clear the IES main exam will then be called for the interview round. This will be the final stage of the IES exam selection process.

Step 7: IES Interview

IES selection process comprises the Personal Interview round. Candidates who clear both IES pre and main examinations are only allowed to participate in the final interview round. Only those candidates who clear the personal interview round will be qualified for the recruitment process.

Step 8: IES Result

After the interviews, the final result will be declared by UPSC and the candidates will be recommended for appointment purposes. This will be the final process after which candidates will join the government offices as Executive engineers, mid-level managers or bureaucrats.

Step 9: IES Cut-off and Reserve List

IES cut-off will be released after the final result. In addition to the IES cut-off marks, IES reserve list will also be issued stating the number of candidates for each category and for each Engineering branch.

IES 2025 Application

The UPSC released the IES 2025 online applications on September 18, 2024. The candidates are required to fill out the IES 2025 online application form online only. They will be required to login with the One-Time Registration(OTR) credentials. The candidates are suggested to check their eligibility as mentioned in the official notification to apply for the exam. The last date to apply for the UPSC ESE (IES) 2025 exam was November 22, 2024.

IES 2025 Syllabus

IES 2025 syllabus will be mentioned in the official IES 2025 notification. The Commission will mention the topics for all the streams and stages in detail. The candidates should see and prepare all the topics mentioned in the official syllabus. The Commission does not mention the weightage of topics of prelims or mains exam. The candidates should prepare all the topics mentioned in the syllabus. The official UPSC ESE (IES) 2025 syllabus will be mentioned for each of the engineering streams separately.

IES Exam Pattern 2025

IES 2024 Result

The Union Public Service Commission released the Engineering Service Final Result 2024 on November 22, 2024. The Commission selected 206 candidates. The Commission released the roll number and names of the candidates in the IES result 2024 pdf.

IES Cutoff 2024

The Union Public Service Commission released the IES cutoff 2024 after the declaration of final result. The Commission released the category-wise cutoff for the UPSC IES 2024 exam on its official website - upsc.gov.in. IES 2024 Answer Key

The Union Public Service Commission released the IES 2024 answer key on its official website - upsc.gov.in. The UPSC ESE answer key 2024 were released after the declaration of the final result on November 22, 2024.

The IES answer key is the only authentic source to know the answers to the questions asked in the IES Prelims exam. The IES prelims exam is a new stage added in the Engineering Services exam. The candidates should download the IES prelims answer key of the previous and with the previous year's question paper and their answer key, the candidates can understand the important topics and areas from where the questions were asked. IES Exam 2025 Admit Card

UPSC will conduct the IES 2025 exam on February 9, 2025. The UPSC is expected to release the IES admit card 2025 on January 14, 2025. The candidates should download the IES admit card to know their exam centre.

Check all the details mentioned and in case of discrepancy immediately inform the authorities at UPSC.

IES 2025 Exam Centre

The UPSC ESE(IES) prelims and the main exam are conducted at the designated UPSC ESE (IES) 2025 exam centres. The list of UPSC IES exam centres will be provided in the notification. The candidates can check the complete list of the IES exam centres below.

It may be noted that the provision of the sealing of the seats will take place on the number of candidates allotted to each of the centres. The centres for which sealing will take place will exclude Delhi, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur.

UPSC will make allotment of ESE(IES) Exam Centres on first cum first serve basis. Applicants who are unable to occupy a seat in their choice of centre will be allotted a seat in the remaining vacant seats at other centres.

Candidates should note that the request for a change of examination centre will not be entertained under any circumstances.

IES 2025 Question Paper

The IES 2025 prelims exam will be conducted offline only. The Commission will release the IES 2025 question paper soon after the exam. The Commission will also open an objection window for the candidates. The UPSC will allow the candidates to send representation against the incorrect questions/answers. The candidates will be required to send objections with valid proof for each of representation. Previous year question papers are very important for the candidates because they provide a clear idea about the demand of the exam. UPSC ESE (IES) question papers will provide an idea about the important topics.
