UPSC CAPF 2022 Selection Process
The UPSC CAPF selection process consists of the following three stages.
- CAPF Notification and Application
- CAPF Admit Card
- CAPF Written Exam
- Medical/Physical standard Test
- Interview
UPSC CAPF 2022 exam was conducted on August 7 in offline mode across the nation at the designated exam centres. This will be the third step in the selection process. The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Assistant Commandant exam to recruit the candidates for the position of the Assistant Commandants for the Central Armed Police Forces. The Central Armed Police Forces include the following armed forces :
- Border Security Force (BSF)
- Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
- Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
- Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
- Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
UPSC CAPF recruitment notification was delayed this year and issued in August instead of June.
CAPF written exam
The UPSC CAPF 2022 written exam was conducted on August 7. The exam is conducted based on the CAPF syllabus prescribed in the official notification. The CAPF written exam is very important for the candidates as the marks secured in the written exam are considered for the final merit list. The UPSC CAPF written exam has two parts. The objective part is very similar to the IAS prelims exam. The subjective part of the written exam asks the essay, General Studies and Comprehension. The candidates preparing for the Civil Services can easily crack the objective and the subjective part of the CAPF written exam.
The UPSC CAPF preparation is very similar to the IAS preparation. The only difference is the breadth of the syllabus to be covered. The candidates can prepare for the UPSC CAPF exam by following the tips and strategies given for the CAPF exam.
CAPF PST/PET and Medical
The CAPF written exam is followed by the Medical and Physical Test. The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) are conducted by the CRPF Board constituted for this purpose. The candidates are called for the Physical and Medical test by the CRPF. The CRPF issues the admit card for the said exam stage.
The Medical and Physical Test is mandatory for all the candidates and the candidates must qualify the Medical and Physical test. The promotion of the candidates to the interview stage is subject to the success of the candidate in the Medical and Physical test. The candidates who pass the medical and physical stage are called for the UPSC CAPF interview.

UPSC CAPF Interview
The CRPF provides the list of successful candidates to the UPSC. The qualified candidates are called for the CAPF interview. The UPSC Interview is conducted at the UPSC Office, Dholpur House in New Delhi. The complete schedule for the CAPF interview is released by UPSC. After the Interview, the UPSC prepares the combined merit list by adding the marks of the candidates secured in the written exam and the interview. The final merit list is prepared based on the sum of the said marks.
The UPSC decides the number of candidates to be selected for the CAPF exam and the marks of the last selected candidate serve as the cutoff for each category.
