The possibility of direct admission to IHM depends on the course for which you are applying. If you are applying for any degree course, you cannot apply for direct admission. To be admitted to a degree programme such as the B.Sc. you must take the NCHMCT JEE exam. On the other hand, if you are applying for any Certificate or Diploma course offered by a particular IHM, you can apply for direct admission. For instance, you can apply for the Craftsmanship Course in Food Production with a 12th grade score.

Q:   Is it necessary to give NCHMCT JEE to get admission for this course?

This is not necessary to write NCHMCT-JEE exam for Diploma courses. The five diploma courses as Diploma in food production, Food & Beverage Service, Bakery & Confectionery, Front Office Operation and Housekeeping Operation are the core areas of food and beverage operations. It is open to 12th pass students of +2 system who must have studied English language as one of the subjects. The Course duration is for 36 weeks followed by 24 weeks of Industrial Training. Admission Process: - Applications are invited by individual affiliated Institute of Hotel Management through advertisement in leading local newspapers released during the month of June each year and selection made through a transparent selection process. Each Diploma program equips students in the basic areas of specialization and institutes provide hands on training to students in the institute kitchens and laboratories.

Counseling is the next step in the selection process for B.Sc. programs at IHM Chennai, after passing the NCHMCT JEE exam.
