DU Admissions 2022: Academic council meets to discuss UG Curriculum framework

Delhi University today held its academic council meeting to discuss the undergraduate curriculum for the session 2022-23. The council has met to discuss the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) that was presented on January 21, 2022. UGCF was created in a way to implement the reforms as per the new National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).

The varsity has released a draft UGCF 2022 which was created in accordance with NEP 2020 and asked for feedback from stakeholders. The last date to submit the feedback was January 30, 2022.

DU’s UGCF-2022 allows students to choose at least four elective papers from any discipline other than the student's core discipline(s) which will help them to move towards a multidisciplinary educational approach, as mentioned in NEP 2020. The meeting today was expected to hold a decision on the way DU Admissions 2022 should be conducted for students all across the country.

One of the major decisions mentioned in the draft was the implementation of a four-year undergraduate course for all disciplines and that students pursuing a four-year undergraduate course shall be awarded an appropriate Honours degree on completion of the eighth semester after scoring at least 50 per cent of the total credits (at least 88 credits in that Discipline out of the total of 176 credits).

The UGCD was made official on January 21, 2022 and the varsity gave time till January 30 for the objections and feedback from the stakeholders. DU’s UGCF also came under criticism as many felt that it will reduce the workload of teachers as well as the credits for students in UG courses.
