Mystory@Mahesh K. Hebbale: How I chose my course and career path – Challenges and learnings

Mystory@Mahesh Kumar Hebbale

My journey of life has been very challenging and interesting, at the same time. I have completed my class XI and XII in science stream, from a local government school in Kerala. The school lacked its basic amenities and the teaching staff was a total waste. Inspite of all these facts, I had no other choice but to settle with those challenging conditions as our family was suffering from severe financial crisis.

Somehow I managed to clear the PUC and then decided to work at a nearby Bike Servicing Center. I was paid with an amount of Rs.20 per day. Witnessing the family’s financial condition, I had no other choice but to quit studies and earn money. With the qualification of just the PUC, no organization would have even bothered to take a look of my CV.

How I cracked college admissions

But, then my father somehow arranged the amount that was required to seek admission for higher studies. I still remember the moment when he handed me an amount of Rs.3000 and asked me pursue with higher studies. In no time, I got myself enrolled in S.B. College of Arts and opted for B.A in English, History and Psychology.

What I gained from my college years

As the famous Darwin said 'Survival of the fittest'.

My college years were spent in isolation and hard work. When every other student was busy bunking classes and making girlfriends, I was indulged in my course books. This was because I could understand the worth of every single penny that was spent to seek admission.  After completing Graduation, I enrolled myself for the Post Graduation course in Gulbarga University. Just before a month of my final results, I got placed in a reputed degree college as a Lecturer of English Language. Today, I am earning a handsome salary and leading a peaceful life.

I understand that life is nothing without challenges, fear and obstacles but, the right kind of solution is to deal with those problems instead of running away
