The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), conducted its annual entrance test for 2018 session on December 3, 2017. According to the IIFT 2018 test takers, English Usage and General Awareness sections were tougher than the rest of the sections.

This year, there was a significant change in the IIFT exam pattern which may affect the candidates. This year, the luxury of choosing one option out of two was snatched from the candidates. Earlier, the candidates could choose to perform in either Data Interpretation (DI) or Logical Reasoning (LR). Likewise, they had the option to choose either English Usage (EU) or Reading Comprehension (RC), but this year, this choice was not there as a result of which the candidates had to perform well in all the sections.

MBA expert Rahul Singh, CATKing told Shiksha, "The overall cut-off is expected to go down by 10-11 marks looking at the difficulty level."

Let’s take a deep dive into the sectional analysis of IIFT 2018 exam paper.

Verbal Ability was a complete off beat this time where we saw the back-to-school grammar questions like identify the adjective clause, noun clause etc. It was atime consuming section with lengthy para-jumble and para-correction questions. 10 to 12 questions were easily doable in this section. A good attempt would be 14 questions.

Reading Comprehension passages were lengthy and not the usual factual questions. Still, with time 10 to 12 questions will be a good attempt.

Quantitative Ability was not difficult but definitely time consuming. Keeping the overall time taken one could attempt 12-13 questions. The section had maximum arithmetic based questions and a few geometry and modern maths.

Like all exams, Data Interpretation was extensively calculations based, 1 set was easily manageable for all.

General Awareness: This section was the toughest with questions from current affairs and static GK.  Scoring in this section will be difficult as the questions cover vast range of topics, from entertainment world to defence exercises, international relations and world trade. GA cutoff is expected to go low this year.

Let’s wait for the results and see how it goes. The overall cut-off is expected around 37-38.
