Q:   Is only CAT score a factor for admission in IIMs?

A:
No, CAT (Common Admission Test) score is not the only factor considered for admission to the Indian Institutes of Management (Iims). While the CAT score is an important factor, it is just one of the several components that are evaluated in the selection process. The selection process for Iims typically involves several stages, which may include: CAT score: The first stage of the selection process is the CAT exam. Candidates who meet the cutoff score set by the IIMS are shortlisted for the next stage. Written Ability Test: The What is a written test that evaluates a candidate's ability to communicate effectively in written form. This stage tests a candidate's writing skills and analytical ability. Group Discussion GD In the GD stage, candidates are divided into groups and given a topic to discuss. This stage tests a candidate's ability to work in a team and communicate effectively. Personal Interview PI- The PI stage evaluates a candidate's overall personality, communication skills, work experience, academic background, and other factors. Academic Record: The academic record of a candidate is also an important factor considered in the selection process. This includes the candidate's academic performance in school and college, as well as any professional certifications and degrees. Overall, while CAT score is an important factor, it is just one of the components considered in the selection process for IIMs. Candidates are evaluated on multiple parameters, and the final selection is based on a combination of factors such as CAT score, academic record, work experience, What, GD and PI performance.

A:
The selection process for the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad is highly competitive and rigorous. It typically consists of multiple stages that assess the candidates' academic performance, work experience, aptitude, and communication skills. While the specific process may vary from year to year, here is a general overview of the selection process for IIM Ahmedabad: 1. Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria set by IIM Ahmedabad, which typically include a minimum academic qualification (usually a bachelor's degree) with a specified minimum percentage or CGPA. Additionally, candidates need to appear for and qualify in the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management. 2. P1: But that's a general answer to why MBA and not why FABM.

A: The business plans and pitches were mostly agri-based and required knowledge of my field. That's how I realised my potential in FABM.

P1: Tell me some cities in Gujarat.

A: I knew this answer so well but I went completely blank and ended up saying Ahmedabad (awkward), Gandhinagar, GIFT city and Surat.

P1: What is the full form of GIFT city?

A: Again went blank and could not answer.

P1: Any other cities?

A: Tried to recall but could not answer.

P1: Name some districts near Kolkata.

A: I was completely panicking and did not hear the word "near" and started rattling off any district that came to my mind. The panellist stopped me and asked me to listen to the questions properly. I apologised but could answer only a few.

P1: Have you done any internships? What did you learn?

A: I answered the question; however, no cross questions came in from here.

P1: Are you familiar with the FABM Programme?

A: Yes, I know there is a rural immersion program and I have also gone through the electives offered in the second year.

P2: Tell me some methods of preservation.

A: I gave a very detailed answer covering 5-6 methods with examples and other details. The panellist questioned me more on this for around 5-7 minutes and I was able to answer all of these technical questions.

Post this, the second panellist took over the interview process

P2: Have you done any projects? What was it about?

A: I answered the question and provided a summary of the project.

P2: Some more questions about my college.

P2: What do you want to learn at IIM Ahmedabad?

A: Currently, agriculture in our country is at an inflexion point. Whoever comes up with a solution to the inefficiencies is going to make it big. I want to learn more about these inefficiencies in detail.

P2: Which company do you want to work in and why?

A: I named the company and said how the company has witnessed tremendous growth in only a few years. Their diverse profile will provide me with a lot of opportunities to work in different fields. Also, I mentioned that the current MD of the company is an alumnus of IIM A (FABM) and has put the company on the path of rapid growth. The journey has inspired me a lot and gives me hope that I might be able to achieve something similar in the future.

P2: So Akansha, are you scared of maths?

A: I said I am but I work hard so it does not pull me back.

P2: Did you have maths in +2?

A: Yes sir.

P2: So you must be familiar with calculus?

A: It has been 4 years since boards and I did not remember a lot so I was honest and told them that I have studied calculus but I do not remember much at the moment.

P2: But you will have to brush up on that.

A: Answered that I definitely will revise my +2 maths before joining.

P2: That would be all. Thank you Akansha.

Verdict: Converted

Thoughts on IIM Ahmedabad PI

The personal interview at IIM Ahmedabad went for approximately 20 minutes. The initial phase of the interview did not go well. I was anxious before the technical questions came in the second part of the interview process. I did not forget to put a smile on my face and apologise for any of my mistakes throughout the interview process. I guess being honest and raw during the interview at IIM Ahmedabad came with an added advantage over my technical knowledge from the BSc degree.
