Q: What is the difference between MMS, MBA and PGDM?
Each of these programmes deals with management and business administration concepts. While the nomenclature varies from programme to programme, the core subjects and curriculum remain the same.
The major difference between these programmes is that while MMS and MBA are degree programmes, PGDM or Post Graduate Diploma in Management is a Diploma programme. The MMS and MBA programmes are offered by universities and are affiliated with the University Grants Commission (UGC). On the other hand, PGDM is offered by private or autonomous institutes which are generally affiliated with the All India Centre for Technical Education (AICTE).
Q: What is a MMS course?
A two-year post-graduate management programme known as the Master of Management Studies (MMS) has been authorised by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). It is essentially an MBA-style management course. The post-graduate management degree programmes are offered in some universities under the names MBA and MMS, respectively. The majority of Maharashtra's universities provide MMS as an alternative to MBA. The MMS curriculum is made to help people who want to work in the industry enhance their business management abilities and get the training they need.
MMS Course Eligibility Criteria
The minimum MMS eligibility criteria vary depending on the university or college to which the candidate is applying. Interested students need to fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria to get admission to the Master of Management Studies program.
- The basic eligibility criteria for MMS is Graduation in any discipline or equivalent from a recognized university

- A candidate must have passed his graduation in any discipline.
- A candidate must have scored at least 50 per cent score in graduation.
- Reserved category students must have scored 45 per cent marks.
Q: Which course should I pursue among MBA and MMS?
Best part of SIESCOMS are they treat students of PGDM and MMS equally in term of placement, internship, facility and Infrastructure. The only difference is name of the degree one is MMS and other is PGDM. Since I am a PGDM student, I can say in PGDM, since the colleges have autonomy the curriculum can be updated regularly depending on the need in the Industry. Hence one can say that PGDM courses are more industry relevant, up to date as compared to MBA courses. However university MBA programmes too are of value, it totally depends on the university one wish to do MBA.
All the best.
Q: What is difference between PGDM, MBA and MMS? Is MMS required?
Difference between PGDM, MBA & MMS is that PGDM is a diploma in management which is not a masters degree just like MBA or MMS.
MBA is a full time or a part time masters degree in business administration which is not offered by Mumbai university but by other Indian universities like Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Dehradun and so on . Whereas MMS is a full time masters of management studies just like BMS offered by Mumbai university but which is not offered by some other Indian universities. MMS is required only if you are doing Masters in management studies course offered by Mumbai university. It all depends upon your choice, will & decision whether you want to pursue PGDM, MBA OR MMS. As far as I know is that companies or corporates don't look whether you have pursued MBA, MMS, PGDM , PGPM OR PGDBM.
All they look for is that from which college, university or institute you have pursued your management degree, program or diploma. What really matters is the placements and the package offered by the companies visiting the institute from where are pursuing your management course. Even if an Institute has autonomous approval given by the government of INDIA just like IIM, JBIMS, NMIMS, Welingkar, IBS and so on has equal importance in the courses offered by them just like a university recognised or approved by the government .

Q: Which is better between MBA and MMS?
Firstly understand what do they mean: MMS degrees are the same as MBA degree, the only thing is that Mumbai University gives MMS degrees instead of an MBA. The difference between MBA and post graduate diploma are :
- MBA is a degree course, while other is a diploma course.
- MBA degree is provided by only those institutes that are affiliated to any university. e.g . . . . JBIMS and FMS, PUMBA. These B-schools are university deparments of their respective university. They follow an academic curriculum as prescribed by the university. Hence these B-Schools give MBA and MMS degrees. PGDM courses are offered by private B-Schools that are not affiliated to any University. For example, IIM's, XLRI, IIFT, SP Jain. These institutes prepare their own syllabus, and they are no way dependent on the universities and enjoy full autonomy of their courses. So B-schools like NMIMS, SP Jain used to provide MMS degrees while they were affiliated to Mumbai University, but now since they have become autonomous, they no longer provide MMS degrees and give PGDM.

Q: Can I pursue a Ph.D after completing MMS?

The specific requirements for PhD programs will vary from university to university. However, some common requirements include:
- A master's degree in a related field
- A strong academic record
- Research experience
Q: What is the value of an MMS vis-a-vis MBA and PGDM in the industry?
The industry perceives the value of MMS to be equivalent to an MBA or a PGDM. As stated above, the course curriculum is on similar lines as that of the MBA and PGDM and the students get ample industry exposure along with approximately three-month summer internship. Moreover, if s/he is armed with an MMS degree from reputed institutes like JBIMS or SIMSREE, then its value is considered equivalent as that of a PGP from IIMs or MBA from FMS, Delhi or IIFT or a PGDM from XLRI Jamshedpur or MDI Gurgaon.
Q: What is the fee structure for MMS?
The fee structure of MMS is much lower as compared to the PGP or PGDM programmes. The tuition fee of the major B-schools offering MMS programme range from INR 2 Lacs to INR 6 lakh. The fee amount may vary from institute to institute but the range of fees is likely to be around INR 10 lakh. The cost of an MMS (Master of Management Studies) degree varies by institute. However, the location of the institute, the duration of the programme, and the specialisation are all factors that may influence the cost structure.
