My MBA journey at CIMR has brought out the best in me: Vikhyat K Hegde
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths".
- Walt Disney.
The field of Management has always fascinated me – that explains why I chose to do my graduation in Bachelors of Management Studies (BMS). I worked for a brief time as a Business Development Executive because I wanted to gain some industry exposure before doing an MBA.
As the opening quote implies, I love trying new things and am a curious soul.
The Preparation Phase
I had laid out a 3 month action plan for the CET Exam which takes places in the month of March. Every week on alternate days I gave a full-fledged CET Mock test of 2.5 hours followed by a detailed analysis of 3-4 hours. The analysis helped me identify and rectify my mistakes. The other days of the week were for understanding concepts and solving problems of Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Abilities, Visual Reasoning, English Grammar.
The Mock tests acquainted me with the format and time management whereas the problem solving helped to get my concepts crystal clear. I kept Sundays relaxed so that I have the motivation to keep going.
I took around 20-25 Mocks and was good to go.
After the CET exam the focus shifted to GD-PI preparations. Reading about current happenings was an everyday thing now along with reading books and magazines. I participated in a lot of Mock GDs and PIs which ultimately helped me to get into the Business School that I am currently pursuing my PGDM from, which is CIMR, Mumbai.
The Management Journey so far
I’d say that MBA is a platform for an all-round, 360-degree development of an individual. It’s a journey of discovering one’s actual self and a training ground for perfection. Lectures explaining fundamental concepts, applications explained through case studies gives a clearer understanding both practically and theoretically. Faculties with both industry background and teaching experience become the best reliable source for all of your after lecture discussions. With presentations every other day, my public speaking skills are getting continuously honed. Working in groups has made me a good team player. Events which include industry interfaces aid in chalking out my journey from Campus to Corporate. The Off-Summer projects have helped me gauge the market well.
Opportunities of organising events with others have brought out the manager in me. I am also the Business Line Campus Ambassador where I get to cover the on-goings in the campus and keeps the writer in me alive. My own write ups getting published gives me an altogether different high and pushes me to keep writing. International Conference organised by the Institute and interaction with the Exchange students of New York University also helped me form a perspective about global management scenarios. So far the journey through the first year has been enriching and enlightening, bringing out the best in me and I hope to have an action packed second year to make the best out of it too.
