Mystory@Vishal Agrawal: How I chose my career path

Mystory@Vishal Agrawal

The direction I took after Class XII was an independent choice that I made on my own. I was never pressurized to choose a stream or career path. I’ve been lucky so far as I am happy with the choices I made. I must say, it was possible with the support I received from my parents.

My story of choosing my current course (Tourism) is weird as I could not figure out for myself whether I should choose Tourism as a career till the time I was counselled by one of my team leads back in TCS. He explained me the benefits of this stream, future prospects and the growth opportunities in this field, considering my interest in travelling.

I could not figure out for myself whether I should choose Tourism as a career till the time I was counselled by one of my team leads back in TCS.

How I cracked admission in Tourism course

After completing BCom, I got placed in TCS. Though it was quite tricky for me to switch back to studies after being in full-time work for almost two years, I decided to prepare for the entrance test to take up a course in MBA Tourism. I had a clear vision of how I need to get through the exam, Group Discussion (GD), and personal interview (PI). Frankly, my only fear had been the entrance exam which I managed very well, in fact I outperformed in the same and got into Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management (IITTM), Gwalior.

Tourism is a very interesting subject to study, as it provides you a wider scope of seeing things around you. You get to know interesting facts about your country, your culture and what not. My favourite subject, I would say, is Tourism Products of India along with Marketing.

As part of extra-curricular activities, I got to perform (sing) in the Annual Fest of the College (DISHA), which is more of an interactive kind of event between juniors and seniors. Talking about the changes in my life, I would say, Masters course helps you groom your personality, which might not be noticeable to you, but it is to others. You develop a sense of confidence within yourself as you deal with people from very diverse backgrounds. I believe that to achieve your goal, all you need to do is believe in yourself.
