In wake of a decline in COVID cases, the Banaras Hindu University has now announced that it will reopen the campus at full capacity. It must be noted that in wake of the rise in Covid cases and its variant Omicron, the University had discontinued offline classes and began online classes for all courses. The campus was closed, however, all the exams that were underway were conducted while adhering to all COVID-19 protocols. 

On Monday, the varsity in an official notification announced that "Various institutes/faculties/departments/offices/units of Banaras Hindu University will work with full capacity with immediate effect and all teachers, officers and employees will be 100 per cent present at their workplace on regular basis. Strict adherence to COVID-friendly behavior is expected from all."

In the notification issued by the Assistant Registrar (General Administration) Ashok Kumar Sharma, instructions have been given to ensure 100 per cent attendance of employees in all departments from tomorrow; i.e. February 9, 2021. However, a decision has not yet been taken on the conduct of classes.

The University was working in a roster system, with all faculties, departments and offices, with 50 per cent staff working from campus and 50 per cent were working from home, until now. 

Last month, when the offline classes were discontinued, the BHU Vice-Chancellor had urged the teachers to ensure that students do not lose interest in the online classes. For this, the BHU Vice-Chancellor added, the teacher should motivate the students to study through various activities. He said: “Whatever is the best medium of online teaching, arrangements will be made for it.”
