The number of schools with internet connectivity has increased to 3.7 lakh in 2020-21 from 3.36 lakh in 2019-20.

Over 39.7 lakh students of government-aided and private schools were transferred to government schools, during 2020-21. As per Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE)+ data released by the Ministry of Education, 25.38 crore students were enrolled in school education during 2020-21.

Education Ministry today released a report on UDISE+ for 2020-21 on school education in India, which shows a significant rise in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) compared to 2019-20. GER, which measures the general level of participation, has improved during 2020-21 compared to 2019-20 at all levels of schooling. The level-wise GERs in 2020-21 compared to 2019-20 are 89.7 per cent to 92.2 per cent in upper primary, 97.8 per cent to 99.1 per cent in primary, 77.9 per cent to 79.8 per cent in secondary and 51.4 per cent to 53.8 per cent in higher secondary.

Students- teachers in schools

The number of enrollment in schools increased by 28.32 lakh in 2020-21. The total number of students enrolled in school education from primary to higher secondary in 2020-21 was 25.38 crore. earlier, in 2019-20, the figure was 25.10 crore.

The number of teachers also increased during this period as during 2020-21, there are a total of 96.96 lakh teachers in schools, this is about 8800 more than the number of teachers in 2019-20.

Looking at the number of student-teacher ratio (PTR), in 2020-21 it was 26 for primary, 19 for upper primary, 18 for secondary and 26 for higher secondary. Comparing this with 2018-19, it has shown improvement, as the PTR for primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary during 2018-19 was 28, 20, 21 and 30, respectively.

There has been an increase in enrollment of girl students in 2020-21, with more than 12.2 crore girls enrolled in the range of primary to higher secondary. “This has led to an increase of 11.8 lakh in the number of girls in 2020-21 as compared to the enrollment of girls in 2019-20,” reads the Education Ministry report.

School infrastructure

As per the data, during 2020-21, there has been an impressive increase in the number of schools with operational power facilities. this year, 57,799 schools have been provided electricity connections, as compared to 73.85 per cent in 2018-19, 84 per cent of the total schools now have access to electricity. The report states: “This shows a significant improvement of 10.15 per cent during this period.”

During 2020-21, toilets for girl students have been constructed in 11,933 schools. with this, the number of schools with girls' toilet facilities has increased from 93.2 per cent in 2019-20 to 93.91 per cent in 2020-21.

The number of schools with computer facilities in the current i.e. functional condition increased from 5.5 lakh in 2019-20 to 6 lakh in 2020-21. that is, it has increased by 3 percent, now 40 per cent of the schools have access to computers.

Talking about internet facility, the number of schools with internet facility has increased by 2.6 per cent to 3.7 lakh in 2020-21. the number was 3.36 lakh in 2019-20.
