The water level in Yamuna was 208.46 metres at 7 am today as the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana continues to release water into the river. The current water level is three metres above the danger mark.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that all private and government schools in the flood-affected areas of the National Capital will remain closed. The decision has been taken considering the rise in the river Yamuna level. Emergency measures are being put into action as the water level in the swollen Yamuna in Delhi rose further during the night, flooding homes and roads.

The water level in Yamuna was 208.46 metres at 7 am today as the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana continues to release water into the river. The current water level is three metres above the danger mark. The Arvind Kejriwal government had urged the centre to step in and stop the water discharge from the barrage, but the centre replied that excess water from the barrage had to be released.

Earlier, CM Kejriwal announced the closure of all schools on July 10, amid the heavy rains. According to the announcement, all schools in Delhi across educational boards, i.e. state government, private or semi-government-aided, in the capital were asked to remain closed.

Sharing a tweet on social media, the chief minister said, “In view of the torrential rains lashing Delhi since last 2 days and warnings from the Meteorological Department, all schools in Delhi are being closed for a day tomorrow.”
