Among the schools targeted were Delhi Public School (DPS) in Vasant Kunj and R.K. Puram, G.D. Goenka School, Doon Public School in Paschim Vihar, and Brilliant's Convent School in Pitampura.

Over 40 private schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email early on Monday morning, prompting swift action from authorities and the evacuation of students from several institutions. Among the schools targeted were Delhi Public School (DPS) in Vasant Kunj and R.K. Puram, G.D. Goenka School, Doon Public School in Paschim Vihar, and Brilliant's Convent School in Pitampura.

Bomb Threats Reported at DPS RK Puram and G D Goenka School

The bomb threats were first reported at DPS RK Puram at 7:06 AM and G.D. Goenka School in Paschim Vihar at 6:15 AM. According to official sources, the emails warned of bombs planted inside the schools, demanding a ransom of $30,000. The anonymous sender threatened that failure to pay would result in the detonation of the explosives. In response, a team from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), along with the police, bomb disposal squad, and a dog squad, were immediately dispatched to investigate the situation.

Immediate Evacuation and School Closures

As a precautionary measure, the school administrations took immediate action, sending students home. Parents were asked to pick up their children as a safety measure while the authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the school premises. Fortunately, no suspicious items were found during the checks, and the situation remains under control.

The email, which contained explicit threats, read, “I planted multiple bombs inside the building. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause very much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs. If I do not receive $30,000 I will detonate the bombs.” The authorities have assured that no danger has been identified at this stage, but further checks are ongoing.

Court Ruling on Action Plan for Handling Bomb Threats

The bomb threats came just weeks after a directive from the Delhi High Court on November 19 urging local government and police authorities to develop a detailed action plan and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling bomb threats and similar emergencies in schools. The court gave the authorities eight weeks to implement the action plan.

The High Court’s order followed an application by Advocate Arpit Bhargava, and Justice Sanjeev Narula’s bench emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between law enforcement, school management, and municipal authorities to ensure effective management of such emergencies. The SOP must clarify the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, including the police, school officials, and municipal authorities, to ensure swift and efficient action during bomb threats or similar incidents.

Authorities Urge Vigilance Amidst Rising Threats

This recent bomb scare highlights the growing need for schools, law enforcement, and local authorities to be prepared for potential security threats. The Delhi government and police have been urged to accelerate the development of the comprehensive action plan and ensure that all schools are equipped with the necessary protocols to respond to emergencies effectively.

As investigations continue, the police are working to trace the origin of the threatening emails, while school officials remain vigilant and prioritize the safety of students and staff. The incident has raised concerns about school security across the capital, with authorities assuring the public that steps are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students in the city.

Impact of Bomb Threats on School Security

The bomb threats sent to private schools in Delhi are a stark reminder of the increasing challenges that educational institutions face in ensuring the safety of their students. The fear and anxiety caused by such threats can disrupt the learning environment and demand prompt, coordinated action from all involved parties. With authorities now focused on enhancing emergency response protocols, the hope is that schools across Delhi will be better prepared to deal with such threats in the future.
