CBSE firmly stated that it has not issued any directive to reduce the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12 by 15%, nor does it plan to introduce open-book exams in selected subjects, such as English literature and social science, for the upcoming academic sessions.

CBSE Denies Claims of Syllabus Reduction and Open-Book Exams

CBSE Board Exam 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a clarification on Thursday, refuting rumors circulating about changes to its examination system. The board firmly stated that it has not issued any directive to reduce the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12 by 15%, nor does it plan to introduce open-book exams in selected subjects, such as English literature and social science, for the upcoming academic sessions. Furthermore, it clarified that there are no plans to increase the weightage of internal assessments.

The clarification came after various online news reports claimed that the CBSE regional officer for Bhopal, Vikas Kumar Agrawal, had announced during a summit in Indore, outlining upcoming changes to the CBSE exam pattern. The news suggested that these changes were intended to reduce student stress and align with the   New Education Policy's emphasis on holistic education.

CBSE Refutes Online Rumors

CBSE swiftly addressed the misinformation, issuing an official statement to clear the air. The statement, signed by Vikas Kumar Agrawal, categorically denied the claims of a syllabus reduction and changes to the exam format, adding, “CBSE has not made any such change in its examination system or internal evaluation system, nor has any official information been issued in this regard.” However, when Shiksha.com tried reaching out to CBSE, it decided not to comment on the circulating quote by the official regarding CBSE Syllabus Reduction, change in internal assessment weightage, and open-book exam.

The board urged students, parents, and the general public to rely only on official updates released through the CBSE website, which serves as the primary source of accurate information regarding exam formats, syllabi, and other important announcements.

No Immediate Changes to Exam Format for 2025

In its statement, CBSE also confirmed that there would be no immediate changes to the examination system for the 2024-2025 academic year. The single-term examination format will continue for both Class 10 and 12 students. While there are plans to reintroduce the two-term examination format for the 2025-26 session, this will not affect students appearing for the 2025 board exams.
