Niharika is preparing for the IPMAT exams for the Integrated Programmes in Management at various IIMs including IIM Indore, Ranchi, Rohtak etc.

Niharika Goel is Grade 12 topper at Manav Rachna International School in Faridabad, Haryana (MRIS) with a score of 98.8%. Niharika feels that choosing subjects of her choice for 10+2 helped her excel score over 95 percent in CBSE Class 12 Board exams.

Q. Please tell us something about yourself and your family background?

A. I live in a nuclear family and my father is a Management Professional and works in an IT company, whereas my mother works in the primary education sector. I am my parents' only child but my pet-dog gives me great company at home. My parents have always taught me to dream big and work hard but they have also never pressurised me which has helped me keep a calm and positive attitude towards academics always.

Q. Please tell about your stream. Did you choose this stream by choice? How much have you scored?*

A. I knew I wanted to opt for Humanities in 9th grade itself. My parents encouraged me to choose the subjects of my choice and that I believe, was a major contributor to my deep interest in academics in grade 11th and 12th.

I had some amazing subjects like Psychology, Sociology and Political Science that I thoroughly enjoyed studying throughout. As a result, I was able to score an aggregate of 98.8% in my board exams.

Q. What was your strategy to score above 90%?

A. I made it a point to read all chapters from the NCERT multiple times throughout the year. I truly believe that grade 12th Humanities NCERTs are very well written, and one does not necessarily need to use any extra books. I did refer to YouTube videos and audiobooks once in a while for convenience. I took all my school exams sincerely because that is where I could actually gauge my performance. And at the end, I presented my answers in a well structured and neat manner in the board exams so as to convey my ideas clearly to the examiner.

Q. Who encouraged you the most in this journey?

A. My parents and school teachers kept me motivated throughout. They believed in me but at the same time, they never put any pressure or imposed any expectations on me. As a result, I was never too stressed about the board exams, I just focussed on doing my best.

Q. What was your routine during CBSE board exam preparation?

A. Throughout the year, I went to school regularly and paid attention in all my classes because that is where a major chunk of my preparation actually happened. Apart from that, I kept reading and revising the syllabus of all subjects at home.

I had to learn to strike a balance between my board and entrance exam preparation as well as other extra-curricular activities.

Q. What are your future plans? Which career path are you aiming at?

A. I am currently preparing for and taking various Management and Media related entrance exams. I have kept quite a few options open for myself since I am inclined towards management, mass communication as well as liberal arts.

Q. Which all courses and universities are you targeting?

A. I am preparing for the IPMAT exams for the Integrated Programmes in Management at various IIMs including IIM Indore, Ranchi, Rohtak etc. Additionally I have also appeared for Mass Communication and Liberal Arts courses at colleges like Symbiosis, NMIMS, Manipal etc.

Q. If not CUET are you planning to get into B.Tech or MBBS? What career you are planning after your higher education?

A. Instead of CUET, I plan on pursuing either Management from an IIM after clearing the IPMAT exam or going for a Mass Communication course and entering the world of Media.

Q. Please share some tips for students prepping up to appear in CBSE Board Exams 2024.

A. What helped me the most was staying consistent throughout and paying attention in my classes.

Especially in humanities, I believe if one is thorough with the NCERTs and has truly understood the concepts and theories, then one can definitely ace the exams. Since, the CBSE question papers have a lot of application based questions now, especially in subjects like Psychology, rote-learning won't help, try and understand each topic and then frame answers in your own words.
