#BestOfEitherTerms trend on Twitter ahead of CBSE Results 2022

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) concluded Class 10 CBSE Board Exam 2022 on May 24, 2022. It is likely that the board will release CBSE 10th term-2 results 2022 in June. While students are giving mixed responses to their experience with board exams conducted in two terms, a large number of students are demanding a different evaluation method for board exams.

“My exams went well. I was all prepared for the exams before exams. Now, I am eagerly waiting for the results. I hope the board conduct lenient evaluation considering the kind of experimentation our batch went through with regards to boards,” Vaishnavi Siwach from St. Giri Public School, Rohini said.

“Before appearing for exams I was all tensed considering all the protests and trends that were taking place on social media. However, when I appeared for the exams I was quite capable of attempting the papers,” Rajiv Rajan a Class 12 student said.

Students demand #BestOfEitherTerms

‘Best of Either Terms Subject Wise’ is trending all over social media ahead of the conclusion of CBSE 10th exams 2022. Not just CBSE but several state board students have also joined the trend. Stating that ‘Best of Either Terms Subject Wise’ is the ideal evaluation method to release board results, Praveen, a Class 12 student said, “Our batch of 2021-2022 has faced a lot of problems during their academic year. We have taken online classes throughout our last 2 academic years. We are the most experimental batch ever in history. We have to give board exam in 2 phases Term 1 and term 2. A lot of students' preparation is disturbed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We did not get enough time for Term 2 preparation.”

“I am a student of class 12 2021-2022 batch currently taking board examination. I along with the majority of students want BestofEitherterms to be implemented for our evaluation because This batch has faced a lot of problems since last two years as we have been taking online classes. After attending online classes we are forced to take the offline examination even when the covid cases are at its peak. We are the most experimental batch ever we had to give board examination in two terms Term 1 and Term2. For Term 1 which was objective a lot of time was given also students who were preparing for only boards faced objective examination for the first time, and for term 2 very less time was given,” said Namrata Pancholi.

“Students who are from rural areas where there is poor connection were not able to take online classes. Even CBSE said that they could not take online examination due to poor network in rural areas then how can that student get proper education. Thus we request for best of either terms (Subject wise),” Pancholi added.

“People are forcing CBSE to adopt the suggested evaluation method because it is central board. It is likely that if CBSE adopts best of either terms, other state boards would also adopt the same,” said Sarojini, a Maharashtra SSC student.

AIJNSA Backs #BestOfEitherTerms

Himanshu Borah Founder & President of AIJNSA (All India JEE NEET Students Association) has backed students' demand for the best of either term subject-wise. Supporting students’ demands, Borah has sent a letter to CBSE, PMO and MoE stating, “Respected Sir, I am Himanshu Borah, student activist writing this representation on behalf of CBSE students and Parents, as I can feel the pain of all the board students they are facing and also to bring your kind attention towards the tough time being faced by the millions of board students across the country. In last two years, the quality of education that they deserve was not provided to them due to pandemic. As we know the situation of students of 2021-22 batch. Students face lots of issues due to pandemic outbreak in the country, change our education system totally, first time in history students study whole year in online mode, they face lot of the issue like network problem, no concept and base of study was cleared and many more reason for not having proper facility of study.”

Borah further added that conducting board exams in two terms was a great move to save students’ academic year, but it did make students face issues in term of MCQ pattern, new marking scheme, paper pattern, out-of-syllabus questions and more.

He further requested the Board to consider 'Best Of Either Terms subject wise' evaluation method to release board exam results.

What is 'Best Of Either Term subject wise' evaluation method?

Explaining that Best of Either Terms subject wise is the best evaluation method to adopt in these times, Borah said,

  1. Select the subject highest marks by comparing both the terms.
  2. The selected subject should be multiply with 2 for calculating main result.
    3. The practical marks should be calculated as same means out of 20.
  3. Final result should be based on the best marks score in subjects in both the term.

How willBest Of Either Term subject wise evaluation method’ benefit students?

Borah explained that this evaluation method will bring a great relief to students,

  1. If any student scores good marks in Term 1 and He score less marks in term2, as per this method Board will select highest marks score and multiply with 2.
  2. If any student fail in term 1 in one subject and he score good marks or pass respective subject in term 2 his/her result will show good performance.
  3. Term1 have high fail rate it means this time final result will have high compartment rate so by this method students will have less chance of compartment exam.
  4. Students who score good mark in term 1 will not have any objection because this method give them support for best result.
  5. Due to this method student will pass the board exam with good marks.

CBSE’ Take

On contacting CBSE Headquarters, an official told shiksha.com they do have any information about this evaluation method. They have fast-tracked the evaluation process to release board results on time. In case any change in the evaluation will take place, CBSE will inform students through official notification. The official said that the Board refrains students from believing any update coming from an unofficial source.
