ICSE Board Exams 2020: Class 10th, 12th exam CANCELLED; assessment scheme to be out soon

CISCE will not be conducting the remaining ICSE and ISC exams. Know how students will be marked.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has informed the Supreme Court of India that it will not be conducting the remaining ICSE 10th Board Exam 2020 and ISC 12th Board Exam 2020. ICSE has also said that it will conduct optional exams for those who wish to take the examination. The council submitted in Supreme Court on Friday that it will give the option to write the remaining exam for both classes 10 and 12th.

The students who choose to be promoted based on the internal assessment system, for them the ICSE board will release the detailed notification within a week.

The CBSE exam controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said that if class 12 students appear for optional exams, marks obtained will be treated as the final score. “Class 12 students will get chance to sit for optional exams to improve score” he added.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had informed Supreme Court on Thursday i.e June 25, 2020 that the ICSE board will cancel class 10 and 12 board exams. However, ICSE doesn’t agree to give options to students to write exams later.

On June 24, the Maharashtra government had told the Bombay High Court that the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE) board cannot be permitted to conduct its pending standard 10 and 12 exams in July in view of the current COVID-19 situation.

The government said it has also decided not to conduct its own university exams for final year students in the state in the wake of the pandemic.

The decision has been made taking into account the current coronavirus situation in the country and keeping the safety and health condition of the students in mind.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today also informed the Supreme Court that it will not be conducting the remaining CBSE Class 10th Board Exam and CBSE Class 12th Board Exam.

Earlier, during the SC hearing on pending CBSE Board Exams, Senior Advocate Jaideep Gupta who was representing the ICSE Board informed the court that CISCE Board plans to follow the decision taken by CBSE Board as far pending board exams are concerned.

On being asked if the ICSE Board will follow CBSE decision, the advocate said, the Board will follow the government's decision. The Supreme Court informed ICSE Board’s counsel that CISCE Board is “at the liberty to tweak the CBSE decision and follow its own informed decision.”

This comes after a group of parents approached the Supreme Court to direct CBSE and ICSE Board to not conduct the remaining exams amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the country.

The Supreme Court Bench comprising of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, which is hearing the case, had earlier informed board that holding pending board exams “At a time when India is nearing the 3,00,000 mark of total reported cases, it would be a huge risk”.

According to the revised ICSE Time Table 2020 and ISC Time Table 2020, CISCE was scheduled to conduct remaining papers for ICSE (class 10) between July 2 and July 12, and for ISC (class 12) between July 1 and July 14, 2020.

The Council, in the notice released on June 15, said that students will be given the choice to take the pending ICSE/ISC board exams or to skip the exams and get their final ICSE results 2020 and ISC results 2020 determined on the basis of internal assessment or pre-board exams. According to the revised ICSE Date Sheet 2020 and ISC Date Sheet 2020, the pending CISCE board exams are scheduled to be conducted in the month of July.
